Tuning the 4AGZE

Hey guys, if I am starting with a stock supercharged 4agze, what modications can I do before it gets expensive. And what kind of power can I expect?

First off let me ask how many miles are on the motor and does it have good seals? I ask because I've got an 88 S/C myself that's decently modded. I have an NST 180mm pulley kit (produces 14.5 lbs boost in my car), a SPAL fan under the intercooler, a grunt box (to deal with low RPM fuel leanout), ABV mod, and a few other little things like hard coupling pipes instead of the stock toyota bulged couplers. I also have a lighter N/A transmission which has slightly different gearing which I love in the Supercharged car. I have an illegal garage clutch/flywheel setup too. The car did great without any major issues (and was/is VERY quick), but now I've got a couple of fairly major oil leaks because I'm running 20 year old gaskets/seals and all that boost. I've only got 89,000 miles on the motor but the seals/gaskets are just so old that they've "gone to the bad"... wherever that is. If you have a solid starting point and have fresher gaskets and seals you'd probably be fine with mods along the line of what I've got... and those items aren't killer expensive. As far as power, that's twice the boost level of a stock Supercharged car so it really scoots... probably 170ish, maybe 180 horsepower if you're lucky and did all that. At least that's around where I think I am. I know the car will run dead even (nose to nose) with a 2001 stage 2 supercharged VR6 GTI up through around 90-100 and I took it off the line every time. My gearing let him catch up by the end of 1st and we were pretty even after that. By the way... some guy dumped 20K in mods into the GTI (current owner has receipts for everything) to get it to that point. I bought the MR2 mostly modded already to this point (with a few additions I've made) for $4,000. Comparatively, very cheap to mod if you don't go too crazy .

Thanks for the info, the car will have 150k miles. What type of seals are you referring to, I believe all the gaskets have been replaced. How much lighter is the n/a transmission?
