Smacking Curb+Under Carriage?
How hard would I have to hit a curb head on to wreck my undercarriage, struts and all that crap? Reason I ask is 'cause I was heading down to the local UPS pickup. It lies right at the end of a sharp v curve with a large blind spot. I cleared the blind spot, but felt two jolts to the car. I did some inspecting of the curb later - I had tire tracks about a foot in.
Would this be enough to wreck anything? I hit it at about 15 mph. |

You could blow a strut or bend an endlink like that. It's hard to say if you wrecked anything like that, but you can always have a look. I'd pay close attention to the swaybar endlinks, since that's something that's easy to check and likely to be damaged.

get the alignment checked - if its off, you may have bent something.... though it is possible the adjustments have just shifted without things bending/breaking

Sell your MR2, buy a honda or an SUV or something you can beat like that. If you cant keep your wheels within a foot of the road, why would you own an mr2? Im sorry if im coming off sounding like a jerk but thats the way ive always thought and the way it is around here. Just because you have the tools doesnt mean you know how to use them.

And if the mr2 is his learning car good on him sure it may get wreaked but not all MR2's are going to have people that collect them so no point getting angry (I've wrecked enough myself) and you've got to have tools to learn how to use them so meh. |

relax lmp. MR2s aren't supercars, as much as we'd like to think they are. You could look at it another way and say "at least he didn't do that to a real sports car like a 355" or something like that. Also, accidents happen, even to you, I'm sure.

It's just that, i see so many kids with really nice cars that should be kept nice but they destroy them. Even if they dont total it, they continously scrape curbs, back into things, etc. MR2's are rare enough already, it just kills me to see one being beat like that.

did anyone else but me notice this in his sig....
"Roads? Where we're going, we don't need... roads." - Doc Brown :P sorry seemed appropriate given the topic of conversation... as for the debate lol while I hate to see mr2s getting damaged, it happens man. Heck my aw11 currently has a scraped hood because some idiot rushed in front of me on the free way and then realized he had to stop and slammed on his brakes. I couldn't stop in time compared to his new suv which stopped almost instantly. so I slid under his ... no damage was done to his car but hood and bumper got scraped up. Could I have prevented it.... possibly yes If I had brand new brakes, tires, etc I might have been able to avoid hitting him even tho he sped up from behind got in front of me (who was doing normal 65mph freeway speed) and then slammed on his brakes only being about 2 feet from my car at the time. To the OP, as other have mentioned any time you think something could possibly be wrong look into it. If you think you could/have done damage then check it out and go from there. For those who care by az state law I would have been at fault had there not been a dps officer near by that saw the whole thing and cited the guy for reckless driving. However due to this sadly I am left to repair the scuffs myself .... but eh no insurance claim and I still have a clean record so no biggie. |

I wouldn't say he's beating it so much as he had an accident in it. Get off your high horse

It's got nothing to do with being on a high horse, and everybody has no need to flame me. The only point im making is if you can't keep your tires within a foot of the road, you should not own an mr2. plain and simple.

I wasn't aware this topic was still going. I checked under the wheel wells, didn't notice anything different than before.
Imp - I'm not getting into this flamewar with you. Instead I'm placing you on my blocklist to avoid future contingencies. I suggest you do the same. |

I fully agree with everyone here that sh*t happens especially when your cars a little older things seem to not work like when they were new. I've banged mine up a couple of times including beached her on a curb at 85km because the proportianing valve failed and the rear brakes locked, the plus side my front trunk is now in the shape I want it and those front tow hooks have been removed

get it up in the air and check for damage. then get an alignment done.
mine was ran into a curb before i got it and the mount for the strut rod was bent back, one of the fans damaged, and an AC line punctured. otherwise everything is straight and measures out perfect after replacing the strut rod mount. |
