new zealand was discovered by a famous dutchman who then said **** it didnt even land here and sodded off home then a jolly high horse english man said "hip hip cherio" and darted over to make a holiday home, he then went home and the settlers he left were promptly eaten by the maoris the english man didnt like this so he said "hip hip ima kill you fools" and returned with settlers with guns who bought the land off the maoris (who now want it back ) and then shot some for good sport wait where was i going with this ??? screw it im going back to 4chan |

I'm pretty sure you and I together have hijacked some threads in the wee hours of the morning (for the States at least,
). |

Denz, yes you can cut that support piece out without any problems. I had it cut out on a previous MR2 I had for the same reason you're doing, to fit a larger box as low as possible. I was able to make a 1.1cubic foot box on each side, and i lost zero reclining room. It is a great way to go if you're comfortable cutting metal out of yoru car, and building subwoofer enclosures yourself.
Things to note, when you do cut/remove those support/frame pieces, make sure to clean and paint the bare metal spots, otherwise it WILL rust. Also, if there are any sports where the frame used to attach to the floor board metal and you end up with holes going straight through, I'd recommend welding the holes shut, or at the very least use some sort of plastic/rubber plug to plug up the hole. either way you do it, make very very sure you don't leave any bare metal anywhere, prime and paint anything that gets left bare. |

Thanks a lot Baktasht
You dont happen to have pictures/ diagrams of those boxes do you? Im unfortunately looking to get close to twice that out of this box at the expense of leg room. My girlfriend is the only passenger I ever have and she is short so its all good Yea thanks for the reminder, I had intended to do that, despite the fact she leaks like a b**ch im surprised the only rust was some superficial stuff on the top of the seat bolts. Edit, just incase anyone is interested the sub weights 11kg (25 pounds) without box. |

what sub are you using that needs a sealed enclosure that is that large? 2cub/ft for a sealed enclosure for a 10" sub is a LOT, and probably too much for most 10" subs. You can get some seriously high end 10" subs that will put most anything else to shame that require only around .7 - 1.2 cub/ft.
I sold that car a little over a year ago, and unfortunately never took pics of the audio setup that was in it at one point. |

The sub im putting in it is a 12"
its a Fusion Jonah Lomu 12" ( FJL-1211) My Store Ltd - FJL-1211 12" Sub Woofer- DVC 1300 watts (Powered by CubeCart) 1300watt DVC (4ohm each) Its about 5 years old From some research the guys that used these for comps etc ran up to 6cu foot enclosures. No its not ideal but its going to be fun trying to get a 2.5cu foot enclosure in there. Im toying with the idea of full fibreglass. |

In all honesty I'd go with a different sub if I were you. The one you're using just requires way too much air space for an MR2.

^ yup, I know, its not something I would recommend to any one.
Audio and cars are a hobby tho. Im not doing it to meet any audio requirements. Im doing it cause it wont cost me any more than a 10" it wont actualy make my car any less practical and so I can say I did it. By the looks of it I wont be loosing any more room with this sub as I did with my other. At the end of the day I still have an 8" shallow which is perfectly practical that I can just chuck back in. |
