Help, can I cut this out. Storage box
I assume this piece of metal serves no structural importance?
![]() It'll help a lot to be able to remove it. Im trying to shoehorn this thing in the car while still being able to get a small person in the passengers seat. ]Hopefully a box about this size will fit in. ![]() |

So you're putting a speakerbox behind the seat?
EMSpowered sells an awesome speaker box designed to fit behind the seat ON TOP of those storage boxes. I'm not an audio expert, I don't know speakers or anything though so I don't know if that speaker will fit in the EMSpowered box. IIRC, the box is designed for a shallow speaker. But you can buy the speakers for it also, all from EMSpowered. |

Wow you got EMSPowered in there three times.
Thanks for the sugestion, im aware they sell them but for one im in New Zealand, two Ive built a few boxes before and three this bad boy wouldnt fit in there. I never use the storage boxes but i'll be putting my cd changer in the drivers side box when this is done. Just incase anyone is wondering I currently have an 8" Shallow but it just doesn't do the job I want so I looked around, the selection of 10" is very small and anything thats shallow is either expensive or a bit crud. I got this second hand for cheap so its all a bit of fun and games. |

lol with the nz dollar so high importing a speaker box will prob cost less than a cheese burger
but as far as i have seen it holds no structural importance but if your drilling out the spot welds dont drill into the petrol tank |

It doesnt even look like its welded, just that crazy Japanese glue **** that you see holding engine bays together.
I went to your store today to pick something up and I didnt get a chance to show you the sub. |

Sorry, I promise I'm not a subliminal EMSpowered saleman. *buy EMSpowered*
![]() Just joking. I've just always heard the service there tends to be pretty good. And I've helped build quite a few boxes, so I can completely understand needing something built to personal specifications. And I don't ever use my storage boxes either. I'll be cutting them out, but for different purposes...I'm going to strip out my MR2 and do as much weight reduction as possible. When I get a second car I'll put a sound system in that though. |

haha yeah, well if I was a little closer to EMS and Twosrus id happily use them. Toyota NZ rocks my sox tho, they always give really good deals and have everything I need.
Really tho the plastic weights nothing and the metal across I cant imagine wouldnt weigh more than a watch. |

Well when you start removing two or three pounds everywhere you can, it all adds up. Yeah, if the only thing I did was cut out those metal supports for the storage boxes it would be pretty useless, but I'm removing EVERYTHING I can. I want to take out the dash and fabricate my own custom dash from aluminum sheet, for christ's sake.

^ When I get it all done I really do need to catch up with you, now that ive finished my degree.
Edit, and **** clusters, have a Redline Light and another WARNING light when oil, water etc temps go north. Incase anyone is interested I am contemplating Fibre glassing the base to maximise space but mainly to make it fit perfectly then MDF the rest of it. |

![]() That being said, I've been driving my friend's CRX lately and that thing is...a pile. The gauge cluster isn't connected because half the wires are cut and the car is 3/4 stripped already. The wheels rubbed in the wheelwells. You can completely drop the clutch, in first, from a dead standstill and the car would not die, thanks to the fact that *something* is wrong with the clutch...and the brakes...and the steering...and the suspension...and the wiring...and pretty much everything else. Oh, and there is only one bolt holding each seat down. And one wood screw, screwed into the sheetmetal floor pan. Yeah. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Goddamn Hondas. |

Our police use cars that can catch my MR2...for the time being.
![]() I'm planning on a V6 (possibly turbo) or high-boost 3S-GTE swap in the relatively near future (year or so away). And I'll be using a Megasquirt EMS. I actually enjoy electrical work, so the Megasquirt should be pretty fun. I'll be shooting for a minimum 350 whp, but the higher the better. As long as I can run 91 octane and get 20mpg minimum, I'll be good. |

The 88 is my daily so it's normally around hamilton except on weekends when I'm in pukekohe working on things. I leave on the 4th november for aussie for a little while just to get away from things but after that I'm going to be free enough, or before sometime as long as it's not on an exam day or anything but the 4th is coming up fast![]() |

Honestly, I'd take my bone stock MR2 over a new Camaro. A '69, maybe not...Or rather, I'd take the new Camaro, sell it and get a ton of money, and then buy and work on a MKII MR2.
![]() And I was only in Australia for 7 months after I was born. I was born in Adelaide, but we (my parents and I) lived about 500km north, in a little town called Woomera. (I love google maps. ) |
