Cleveland, OH Service Recommendations

I have been informed by two different places that my 93 turbo with 91K miles will need to have some major gasket work due to oil leaks from head gaskets and several other places. Both shops say that the engine must be pulled and that we're looking at between $3-4K minimum.

Does anyone have any recommendations or preferences for a shop in the Cleveland, OH area that could do the work? I'm considering Metro Toyota and Nordonia Goodyear at present.

Also, I figured that with the engine out of the car, now would be a good time to have the clutch replaced. Any other suggestions for work that is easier done with the engine out of the car?

This seems like a hell of a lot of money to put into a 16-17 year old car; am I crazy for even considering it? When I think about it another way, there's no other car for "only" $4K that I can get that is as much fun to drive. I just wish I had the know-how, tools, and time to do a job like this myself.

Thanks,

Mike

The only suggestion I have is to shop around ALOT for a good independent mechanic. You're paying for a great deal of overhead at a Toyota or Goodyear store.

Also, if the engine is coming out, I'd replace everything that is a possible maintenance issue (ALL water hoses, alternator, etc.).

Here's a follow-up. I found a very good and somewhat less expensive independent engine place near Akron. They replaced every wear item including timing belt, water pump, hoses, and a couple of broken sensors and a long list of parts I can't even recall. Their price for the job was $3300, and that included replacing a very expensive oil level sensor ($424 for the part alone!) as well as a full clutch replacement and just about everything else.

I highly recommend Greg's Engine and Machine (Greg's Engine & Machine) 330-666-3077 for those that don't want to or are unable to tackle this kind of engine work themselves.
