the end of my mk1.5
Well, this is the farewell for my baby the tempermental redhead. Last year with around 300hp I broke the front motor mount and the second followed about 3 secs later as I was at 6000 RPM in first just about to throw her in second lost control and nailed a curb with the front drivers corner at around 80 KMH. I replaced the control arm and the trailing arm but it never quite drove the same again, but I started the body work and discovered a serious problem, the floor pan was completly rusted out on the drivers side and so is the sill support and when looking at it closely right where the unibody meets the rear subframe connector is collapsed and the drivers door doesn't line up with the rear body, and to top it off I measured center to center on both sides and one side is 90.5" and the other is 91.5"
. So the unibody is twisted and collapsed, both fenders are rusted out and the rear bumper support is rusted out so I guess this is goodbye to my two and try to figure out what to do with my newly built 3sgte . |

life goes on, but I've decided to make rail style engine mounts on the 3s and couple it to a truck transmission and a rear wheel drive 3sge oil pan and pickup modified with a oil return and build a quarter ton into a drag car.

Mk1's are dirt cheap to find though. I picked one up for 500 that was in running order. The body was good and the frame had no rust. Just drop the motor out and put the 3s in there and you're back on the road. You can low ball most owners out of anything. Mk1's seem to sit forever for sale so the first decent offer they'll take. Kinda like my mk2 that I picked up. The kid was trying to part it out and didn't know what he was doing so he just said screw it and sold it to me for 700 with a 93 wing, jdm gts trunk lid and some "rare" jdm seats. He wanted 400 for the seats and 200 for the trunk lid and wing. The engine was a low mileage swap that had a complete overhaul. Just go into a deal confident and they'll usually work with you.

So I've tried to save the 2 but its just unsavable so I gutted it out for parts, the only mk1 I can find she wants $4500 for, but I had a 93 mazda b2200 regular cab, short box already lowered and the bodywork done for dirt cheap from a buddy so it looks like my 3sgte gets to live on, all I need to do is pick up a W series truck transmission and driveshaft from the wreckers and maybe put my AE86 diffirental to good use

$4500? For that money you could buy a southern car and easily afford to have it shipped. $500 rust free bodies are always popping up around here. Shipping to Regina would be killer, but a rust free mk1 is unheard of up there I'm sure.

I know this would cost an arm and a leg to ship, but looks like you could get a great deal on one of these:

The two big problems with buying out of the states is
1)shipping up here 2)trying to get it saftied and getting the gov't to allow me to plate it I bought a 89 tracker out of cali with a broken timing belt from an older gentleman that brought it to the shop to get it fixed and I spent 3 months trying to just plate the damn thing so I think I may just stick with the toyazda instead of trying to find another 2 up here, also the reason that the girl wants that much for her two is because I wouldn't marry her and then kicked her out because she wanted me to give up working on and building cars |
