Now I might just hate you a little bit.

My '93 is NA and completely stock, but I have big plans for it in the short future.

Newbies to the forum -

It looks like we are among the "older generation" to the forum, part of the 50-100 crowd, a lot closer to 50 than 100!

About a month ago we bought a 2004 MR2 from a gentleman who is closer to 100 than 50.! It only had 19K miles and is immaculate. We love it and my wife even lets me drive it once and a while. It is our "economy" car, now we just need to keep it away from our teenage sons! We've never owned a Toyota before, a week after buying the MR2 my son bought his first car, a 93 Celica, now we are a 2 Toyota family!

No problems or mods yet but I'm sure I'll be digging into soon enough. I managed to buy a set of shop manuals for it which I've already spent too much time reading. I really appreciate forums like this and hopefully I will be able to make some positive contributions in the near future.

You might find the 3rd generation MR2 to be the red-headed stepchild of the MR2 community. You might need to become a 3 Toyota family and get a 2nd gen as well.

Welcome to the world of Toyota! I don't know what you were driving before, but there are very few cars that can match the longevity and reliability of a Toyota. Be prepared for the subtle satisfaction that comes with owning something that simply WORKS. There are very few recurring problems with Spyders. That Celica will likely have a few issues, mostly because of age and the neglect that typically accompanies it, but they are still incredibly good cars.

Also, welcome to the world of MR2s! The Spyder is a fantastic cheap-and-cheerful sports car, but as Medusa mentioned, Spyder owners often keep to their own kind, socially speaking, which is kind of a shame. Other MR2 owners (particularly some of the MkII crowd) have a hard time getting enthusiastic about them, because they are small and light, don't make huge horsepower, etc. I love them to pieces, but then my first car was an MGB, and my dad's first was a bugeye Sprite, so basic lightweight roadsters are sort of in the blood.

Also, welcome to the forum! There is a lot of good information around here...peppered with a fair amount of bad information and unvarnished opinion marketed as gospel truth...just like the rest of the internet, really!

I'm 21.

My first car was a MK1 MR2 that I picked up for a grand in January. Then in June, I got hit and my car was totalled.

And now, I have a 1991 MK2 MR2 thanks to Mark_Dorman and Deucegirl03.

Current mods: Steel clutch cable, Twos-r-us Poly motor mount bushings, KYB GR-2 struts, Eibach Pro lowering springs, Pioneer headunit and Greddy oil catch can.

Future mods: Hopefully, 3vfze v6 swap and maybe, find a way to supercharge it. Upgrade brake system with later year model. Spring Tech sway bars, twos-r-us endlinks all around, Volk wheels or Tom's wheels, Coil overs, Tom's body kit, Carbon Fiber border hood with border radiator kit, new paint job and that's all I can remember.

i'm going to say 26-34 would have the best mods if not up to 38 or so.
The guy I bought mine from had tons of stuff done to it but then again
he was a cummins turbo engineer, prolly just in his nature.
Also people in that age group have money put back and most likely make more.

I'm 23 and speeds in the blood, My dad built his car when he was around my age(50 chev torpedo back fleetline 2 door with a blown 454 big block) I'm actually quite impressed because I built my 86 mr2 into a little monster with a 3SGTE swap and heavy modifacations and my dads afraid of my 4 cylinder when hes got a 700 tire burning horse power V8

I'm currently 17. My first car was a 98 eclipse (got it on my 16th b-day), and luckily was recently able to upgrade to a 1992 mr2 na. Only current mods are an intake and Apexi exhaust, and some 17" rims and cut springs. Hope to soon do some weight reduction, sport springs, wider rear tires, racing seats and wheel, injectors, etc etc

32 here (might as well concider me 33). As for mods, well I just bought the car as a project. It has a Gen 3 swap that was done pretty well but nothing else was done that great on the car. The Turbo is way to friggen big, the TMIC was never vented, body needs work. The wheel and tire package is totally wrong and needs changing. Intent of the car is dual purpose street / Track day car so Areo will probably be more of a concern to me that all out raw power...

I grew up racing karts, then ventured into SCCA IT classes and then to GT1 (as a co-driver) for a short while so road coarse racing is in my blood and will be probably till the day I die.

Hello Forum,
Age 43, owned an '86 in college and recently purchased a 1995 NA as a "just for fun car". I really love it! I have spent a bit more on some general maintenance than I intended (it is again in the shop now for an alignment and they found all the bolts frozen), but I don't anticipate many more issues. It's stock with a K&N filter and am looking at a set of 17" rims. I'm going to park it for the winter and can't wait until next spring to get out and drive!

I'm 31 own a '91 Turbo. 99% stock, only the radio has been removed.

I just bought my first MR2 last Friday so I don't have photos of it yet. It's a car I loved growing up and now that I have one, well, it's pretty cool to have a childhood dream car.

I would agree that the older you are the less mods you want to make.

Good Poll
