I'm 33, theoretically an age where your life is settled and income starts to exceed what you spend, but after a move, career change, and my wife's decision to go to school, that's not the case...
Car is an '85 w/ sunroof, power pack, A/C, and cruise, but no spoiler (which is the way I like it). Mods are a farily stout 7A-GE on MegaSquirt, smallport intake manifold, mostly-homemade header and exhaust system, leather seats and door panels from an '86, and crappy steel wheels from a Scion xB. Their price ($0.00) fit my current level of disposable income ![]() The older I get, the more mods I want, but the less I want to talk about them, and the less visible I want them to be. |

Of course, this is generally speaking for the average, which is ME.I'm 26, and we've already had the discussion about modding a car and ruining it at the same time, so I will agree that typically, I see the older folks less-desiring the modifications to the MR2. I've been in the MR2 game for over 6 years now and in the beginning, I wanted it fast regardless of technique (i.e. ghetto mods) and after a few years and the acquisition of the 94, I just want it reliably quick and competitive for my race of choice. So reliably quick = $$$ spent which will take a few years to accomplish, but I'm willing to wait (unlike I was 5 years ago). |

I'm boned then, ain't I? Can't afford to buy a house, and my wife will still be accumulating student loans debt for another four years or so...maybe by the time I'm 50 I'll be able to BUY a house. Or a coffin...

Gen3 swap DONE!!
|
I bought mine when I was 14 for $250 it was a broken down red 91' N/A. I spent around $600 getting it runing. Now I'm a month away from being 17 and just about done with my JDM Gen3 swap. I'm doing all the work myself though so it has taken a while to do major work on it. I started to swap about 5 months ago and have spent about $3100 and need about $600 more in parts to finish it.

I bought mine for 600$ because they had always intrigued me....The MK1 And MK2, It just so happened that making insurance and car payments on a 98 325i were a little bit pricier than i thought so it was time to buy and MK1.I will be 25 the end of this month, My car had the following "mods" when i bought it.... HKS exhaust cam.. Cone filter..catless exhaust , Optima lightweight battery..The 4AGE was a recent swap with 100xxx or so on it..ST springs ..ST Swaybars..tokico 5 ways..off brand camber kit (could be home made/custom made ?) Old School HRE wheels (cant remeber the offset)...Kamanari rear and side body kit and tinted windows with some random bits and pieces of carbon fiber that I am getting rid of IE screw on foot pedals ....overlay carbon fiber dash crap......Overall its the best 600$ I have ever spent on a car.....and by far my favorite car to drive!

Hm, let's see. I'm 28, and I got my first MR2 a couple of months ago. It's a 91T, and so far this is just my play car. My daily commuter is a honda civic for good gas mileage.
I don't have any mods yet, but by next week I'll have finished with my prothane bushing kit, SS brake lines, Megan coilovers, and poly trans mounts. My next planned upgrades are probably an exhaust and maybe a new IC. I was thinking of a WTA setup but not sure I want to spend that much money. I plan to use this car as a weekend racer, autocross and/or track days. |

At 20 I just bought my 3rd MR2. I currently have a turquoise '93 turbo with some performance mods. I just upgraded from an '87 NA with performance, suspention mods which I actually miss incredibly (the handeling), I had to sell it to pay for the '93 to be shipped here. My first was an '86 NA victim to a hit and run.

I am older, 29, and would have to say that If I could get my hands on a low milage Stock Turbo, esp late model 94 95 I would most likely keep it stock. Maybe exhaust upgrade. Timer maybe but I would keep it out of site. No gauges cluttering up the interior.

Hi from sunny, warm New Mexico. I just purchased my 6th MR2-- a '93 Super Red NA 5 speed. I also have an '89 automatic. In the past I've owned a '91 yellow turbo, a white '89 SC, white '86, and a red '91.
I've never done any modifications to any of these cars other than a K&N filter or Momo steering wheel replacement. My latest acquisition will be my daily driver while my '99 Carrera is relegated to weekends only. I love MR2s and find them like my old Triumph GT6, MGB, or Opel GT. The '89 is especially fun without power steering. It handles like the go-carts I raced when I was in my 20's. The NA '89 lacks initial power, but once off the line is more than adequate. The SC I had had t-tops and I kept hitting my head on the roof whenever I hit a bump. So my '93 has only a sunroof with dark sunroof tinting so I don't have to use the interior cover which allows for more head room. When I drive my '89 or '93 it's easy to forget that I'm driving an 18 and 14 year old car respectively. They still look great-- in fact I think better than many new designs on the market today--- and the engines are nearly indestructible. LT Last edited by hidesertnm; 08-10-2007 at 03:39 PM.. im 28, had about 15 MR2's mostly bought and sold or sent to the scrap yard.
did many things like swappin heads from other 4age's and stuff. i got my first MR2 when i was 17. it was an 87. i think i owned about 2 or 3 SC AW11's. and 3 SW20's, 1 SW22 the rest were MK1 AW11s. i had so many of those because they were cheap to get. im down to just 2 now. one 87 with a full body harness swapped to 89 SC mr2. and a SW20 with a crapload of mods. too many to list. but mainly bolt ons a GEN2 JDM motor. |

55 - 91 NA Sunroof - So stock it still has original Radio. Brand new paint job in original Toyota "Crimson Red"
My wife (bless her heart) convinced me to get it. Figured we'd have something for the kids to fight over when they put us in a home. Having way too much fun watching youngsters in pimped up Hondas and Tiberons pull up beside me in traffic only to have their egos shot down seeing a mint MR2 being drive by their Dad..... ![]() |
