Right on. You're never too old to get into something good, I think. Not that 55 is old, but a lot of people have made their choices and picked their favorites by their early 20s and never seem willing to try any new interests. Good to see that you are not among them!

OK, I'm also not the 102-year-old guy. But, I am a 44-year-old mother of 2 boys (14 and 10). I waited a long time to buy this car (it was too beautiful to be practical, I thought). Finally bought a 2004 Spyder when Toyota announced they were no longer selling in the U.S. It is stock--I don't have the nerve to possibly mess up my baby.
I use it 99% of the time--even to buy $200 worth of groceries and runs to Costco. It is too much fun not to drive all the time, and I only use my Land Cruiser when I have to carry more than one passenger. I look for excuses to drive it, and will take it out from Mountain View to Santa Cruz, through Pacheco Pass and down to Half Moon Bay just because . . . the weather was great! |

Nahh. My first was a chrome bumper MGB roadster, and it was nearly as practical as my MR2, barring modernities like A/C and EFI. I wish I had another one.

If I can figure out how to get this installed on the driver's seat I'll be good to go.
After all, it's a long way up for us old timers. ![]() ![]() |

I'm 19, in college. My MR2 is PRIMARILY transportation, but it simultaneously delivers enjoyment. I haven't got it in good enough shape yet for it to be a toy like I want it to be >-D
it's a 1986 MKI (N/A of course) Not doing much in the way of modding yet; cleaning up the car (it was in pretty good shape but I want to make it super clean) Repairs here and there, replace a part or two. Tokico blues and poly bushings. Other than that, a laundry list of $30 expenses to bring her back strong (oil change, tranny fluid, distributor rebuild, gettin her to pass emissions -_- ...). I decided before the mods, there would be serious rehabilitation. Basically I'm going to eventually finish replacing the entire suspension (currently thinking D2's and the rest just replacement parts from twosrus) and cleaning up the interior (anal things like how I don't want my window to rattle when I close the door!). Once suspension is like new and the body is too, I'll save up for MK1.5, and upgrade my brakes at that time too. I don't really see any of it as mods- cause many of these parts need replacin anyway- for some reason it seems more like replacement, except getting nice replacement parts if that makes sense. SO you could say I'm not really doing any modding- just bringin her up to speed. In more than one sense ![]() I could have just taken her the way she was and started moddin, but I figured solid like-new-ness was a GOOD THING. so that's step one, and unfortunately I suspect it might be a neverending cyclic step! ![]() My ultimate goal is like-new condition, competitive engine power and acceleration, and cornering like a god. Yup, I don't want much ![]() Sorry, I didn't think I'd ramble so much when I started typing! Edit: I forgot, the previous owner swapped in a lower mileage 4AGE and installed a glasspack to replace the muffler. And corvette tips. I hope I can keep the glass pack when I do the swap; The sound is not offensive, and it's kinda deep (haha what can I say, I am a really low bass singer- I like the deep notes). The tips? I actually like smaller pointier ones, but it's kinda fun to say I have 'vette tips. It puts funny looks on people's faces. Edit #2: just to sorta put it in context, of the $1600-1700 or so I've spent on the car, $800 was for the car itself. $300 was for the dampers and bushings, the only things I'd consider close to 'mods'. I would post the list of repairs I've made, but I don't want to bore people. Edit #3: ok, so shoot me, I'm putting in new pedals. But that's cause the gas pedal is missing it's cover/rubber/etc so it's just a piece of metal. Which is really weird because I read once that only clutch and brake pedals had removable cover/rubbers O.o Anyway I lived with it fine for quite a while but I decided if I ever want to learn heel toe, I will need a gap smaller than the current 6 inches between my pedals (it's not really that far but it seems like it). I keep hitting my knee on the steering wheel trying to compensate, and I have to rotate my whole body to the left a bit. Needless to say it makes any kind of accurate heel-toe difficult! ^Easy peasy. Pull the ashtray out. Get a #2 Phillips screwdriver. There are two screws up under the top edge of the stereo surround, and then the surround pulls off. From there you'll see the four screws holding the stereo brackets to the car. You may want to use an 8mm socket on those, as they can often strip if you use a screwdriver.
