That's pretty dang quick in any case. Any street car that can get sub-10 minutes around the ring is respectable.

That is way cool.

You must have a turbo. Have you modded it?

id scream like a little girl if i got a chance to drive the ring.. even if it was in an 89 brown honda accord, it would still be the best day of my life.

9:16 would be my video on YouTube...
I haven't been back to the 'Ring since that trip, but do plan to go again this year probably May-June complete with cameras.

There is an awful lot more speed possible in a Mk2 Turbo,
That lap was hampered by bad tyre choice, and sticky sliding pins on the callipers.
Plus... I'm not a skilled driver, I have a fairly low 'risk threshold' so don't push it like others do!

I make this lap 9m34, and that's in a Mk3 (Presumably still an NA)

But then it's generally not a good idea to go there with a 'time' in mind... I've seen too many crashes.

That is a good time mate, i managed a 9:28 last time there and im there again for Easter. There is no factory time for the Mr2 mk2 Turbo so i would love to know what the fastest time ever set is?? Im sure it's good for a sub 9.

bump!

I've done a 9:05 BTG so far.. I only had the car 2 days and timed my 9th lap. A 9min. flat BTG is very achievable. I've done more then 750laps since 1999, so I'm not exactly cruising around though. Next time I'll make sure I'll bring the camera for evidence.

The car is a '92 T-top with a 3S-GE 158hp engine, it has aircon and leather seats etc. etc. The engine was on it's last legs because it completely died the next day, no compression left on all 4 cylinders. I'm waiting on my 3VZ-FE conversion, then we'll see what it can do

The car has Koni yellow shocks, Intrax springs (-30mm) and Prothane urethane bushings (only rear though, front still needs to be replaced). Tyres were Dunlop SP9000 on 16" rims. I'm going back to the OEM 15" wheels with F:205-50/15 and R:225-50/15.

Will keep you updated

Seeing how leisurely the MR2 turbo cruised around to a 9:16 there, I bet an MR2 turbo could push close to 8 mins with a professional driver going all out.

You mean a stock mk2 (suspension + engine) ? Meh.. that would be a bit difficult..I think around 8:20 is more reasonable. The ///M5 Ringtaxi does 8:30's all day long.. S2000's and E30-M3's are lapping around 8:15/8:20's. It's hard to say what a turbo will do because I don't see them that often.. there are no locals at all driving a MR2.. the only people that are driving MR2 Turbo's on the ring are usually coming from the UK and they don't push it like the locals do.

If an S2000 can hit 8:15, an MR2 should be able to beat that easily. S2000's are not fast.

Mmm I think it's the other way around, the MR2 is old and has inferior suspension compared to the newer and more modern S2000. The only reason the MR2 will be able to pull the same laptimes is because of the torque advantage in the uphill section where cars like the S2000 lack performance.

Don't underestimate the S2000 on teh Nordschleife, it's much easier to drive on the limit, and that really is a very big plus.
