Yeah, I have heard of companies making replicas and selling them for almost half the price, Beware though, this stuff probably comes from taiwan, so the quality is reduced drastically.

I was lucky enough to find one under my car seat; although it might be a cheap knock-off

Needle nose pliers to get the brake cylinders screwed back and to remove the antenna but likely everyone knows that already.

snap-on makes most of the SST's. lisle does too, but for MUCH cheaper. ive had the snap-on rep straight out say to buy the lisle stuff instead. theres always the cheapo chinese stuff too, but you can get quality SST's from non toyota brands. too.

ill take a pic of my tower engine holder thing when i get my hands on a camera.

here is something my neighbor welded up for me to hold the crank pulley in place so I could break the bolt. It worked like a charm.

thats something i customized to use as a 5th gear puller.. i looked all over the place went to 3 tool stores.. all didnt have it.. toyota discontinued the sst to remove our 5th gear on the output shaft.

so lady at hte tool store said well i got this.. its low profile.. and its cheap.. yes its made in china but hey.. i looked almost like what i needed..
on the top was a hook piece which prevented me from closing the 2 jaws close enough to grab the 5th gear.. so busted out my handy cut off tool and hacked it off.

now i got a specialized tool for the job. =)

What tool can be used to remove the cylinder head studs? It looks like a 12 point torx looking thing and Toyota said they couldn't even order me the SST which is 09043-38100. (It's a 91 engine).

I found out it's a 12point, 12mm bit (looks like a torx bit but with 12 points instead of 6).

Last edited by v8killer; 11-08-2007 at 07:48 AM.. Reason: had 10mm by mistake

if its a 3sgte, they're called triple square sockets. the other motors just use 12pt sockets.

KD Tools

Go to a local autoparts store and pick up a 10mm torx socket like the one above.
