K-Mart was shutting down stores in record numbers just to stay afloat but you think they had enough cash laying around to buy a major store? ![]() Last edited by muffinman; 08-04-2010 at 11:35 AM.. |

Truth, online shopping is where it's at. I work for amazon.com and spend countless hours on our website looking for good deals of the day. We have some awesome tools that'll come up on there.

(Amazon DOTD's are pretty awesome though, Harborfreight has some good deals as well.) |

a lot (definitely not all!) of the HF hand tools have drastically increased in quality. i use HF at home
my 7-32mm wrench set was 25 bucks. its more than $300+ from strapon. craftsman has increased quality too actually.. and gearwrench. gearwrench brand tools (not just the ratcheting wrenches, all though they're awesome too) are sold by sears and are excellent as well. i think cheap tools are getting better these days while the "high end" stuff is moving overseas and getting junky.

The killer on Craftsman for me was a few weeks ago when I saw one of my craftsman sockets actually is stamped Japan or such!! Don't know what set or where I got that one, but dang it if I am buying Japan or China tools I'll pay the lower price!! I got a 300+ set from HF that I like as well or better than my Craftsman sets. Cost me $130 on sale with a extra 20% off coupon and has lifetime on it too. I been plenty happy with HF jacks, engine lifts and stands, wood bandsaw, table top belt sander, etc.. etc... so I decided to try the hand tools for my Honda goldwings. So far mostly only used the new set on the bikes, but I like them better than the last set of Craftsman I got. Actually I had to take the gas tank out of my Shelby Daytona for a new fuel pump, the craftsman deep wells did not work as well on the long tank strap bolts as the HF deep wells that I ended up using! The big 5X the cost names like Snappy On etc.. are not an option out here in the woods for me in this rural area. Many years ago I actually traded a Snap-On 3/8th set for a chain and sprocket set for a bike I had and went back to all craftsman then. |

Speaking of HF.
I never had a real problem with anything I have bought from them for years. I did have allot of missing parts from a trailer kit I recently bought but they took care of it and did a bit more for me also. I bought a trailer kit on a Friday and when I got home and opened it it had no bolts, coupler or safety chains. OOPS!! Friday shot! Saturday called and they said sure we'll fix it,that was the last kit of that trailer in stock but we will give you the pack from a larger trailer kit. Drove up to get that, got home and built the frame then found no spring hangers in my kit, AAUUCCKK! Sunday, no problem we'll fix it. Well I loaded up the assembled trailer frame, and everything else and took with me. They did not have the parts needed after opening several other kits for me. Other kits had welded on hangers mine had bolt on. I got a more expensive heavier trailer kit with bigger better tires free of extra charges, just gave them back the one I had bought and they gave me a whole new heavier kit even up! I also got a few other discounts for my troubles! Seldom have a problem with HF stuff, but I got to say when I did they certainly made it right with me! No-one is perfect and it was not their fault I live 150 miles away so each days trip was over 300 miles! They took care of me pretty well at HF, Wally World, Sears, Snappy On, etc... would not have! Other places, best they have done was say tuff luck on your lost time and expenses we'll give a refund only for what you bought and that's it. I had an overly expensive almost new face shield that broke a head strap from Snap-on once. Der... sorry, Snap-on sells it but it's "Blue Point" name so your just SOL bub! That is what Snap-on told me! I bet if I had bought a cheaper one at HF it would not have broke, if it did it would been more like here have a new one no problem, would you like a free new shield with that? |

one huge ding against craftsman sockets.. their impact sockets are HUGE! they're so fat they dont fit in a lot of places, whereas other impact sockets easily fit.
the people who work at HF really dont care too much, they'd rather get you out of the store happy. ive had no problems with returns or anything. matco has increasingly been lowering their prices. of course its all going overseas, but they're affordable with local truck support. if you gotta buy crap off the truck, matco is the way to go. |
