Air Compressors
I think it is time I get an air compressor. The one that looks right for me is a Husky 60 gallon. I need a bigger tank because I will be using die grinders and air ratchets which kill smaller compressors.
I was reading reviews on the Craftsmans, and it seems like they suck. Anyone use this or have any recommendations? |

Long as you have the correct cfm/psi and know how much air you need you'll be alright. I picked up my 80gal/240v from some painters used for $400.

Compressor Idea
I needed to get a compressor in a hurry, there were a LOT of them listed on craigslist.org. I was amazed. I wrote to three of them, none got back to me in time, I needed it NOW. (I was changing my furnace and wanted to blow out my A coil).
Search "compressor" on craigs list, and theres a lot, compressors are one of those things that many people don't use much and they sell them in great condition. Half the ones there looked brand new. I bought a 200 dollar 15 gallon compressor at Wal-Mart, a decent thing, but the deals looked better at Craigslist.org (I wanted one that would fit in the back seat of my Camry too). Reading reviews everywhere, there are a lot of people that say their new compressors gave them problems, so be careful if you get it used. Going 220Volt, you can certainly get a much more powerful one. Here's a quick search for San Diego, there are a couple in Oceanside, a search "oceanside compressor" shows them....... classifieds - craigslist Last edited by gregg; 11-07-2008 at 07:57 PM.. |

Good post Ben... I'm in a market for one too..
I recently helped Ji (o6speedracer) got one from craigslist. It was 4 years old craftsman but really barely used. 20 or 25gal 170psi 3.4 or 3.7HP craftsman. Daym it was a steal for how much he got it for ($160). I looked at the same one at Sears and it was for $500 something and only 1.4HP or something... Daym mono.. that thing is a beauty... How much if you dont mind me asking? I'm thinking over $1k? |

^ time for a cordless impact man
are you doing hardline plumbing? i had half my old garage setup with water traps and drains, and a bigass filter. hardline plumbing is wonderful! plus you can ditch the giant hose reels and just use single 10 foot hoses and have multiple hookups.

AIr compressors Craftsman
I also read the reviews on the RED craftsman compressors. Noisy, unreliable, a lot of people had to replace the motor at nearly at the same cost as the compressor on sale.
THat being said, the black craftsman proffesional got great reviews, quiet and very reliable. and made by porter cable? Porter waggoner????? So I bought a proffesional model, used my Craftsman club discount and I am very satisifed. THe reviews did state that the model I chose was bad about occasionally tripping a breaker, this happens occaisonally to me. Guess the reviews are pretty accurate eh? THis particular model is the largest for 120 volts and is capable of operating on 220v. Never regretted my choice. Kerry |
