Goo-gone interior

the previous owner of my 91T used a gooey adhesive and super glue to affix velcro patches on the (p)leather interior dash to put in one of those dashboard carpet cover things...

anyone have a good method of removing the adhesive without leaving the dash looking terrible?

id like to repair the surface to a normal look afterward but im not sure its going to be possible

Other then goo-gone I wouldn't know what to use. If it were my car I would use goo gone to get the stickie off then take a bit of soap and water to the areas I used goo gone followed by (insert favorite interior cleaning supply here) and clean the entire interior with it.

But this is only if it is in good condition I am assuming the dash is fine and the cover was actually acting as a protectant not a cover up lol.

Now depending upon the interiors condition be prepared to spend alot of time cleaning it to get it back to original condition unless of course you paint it. When i first got my car I spent over $40 on cleaning supplies and it took me over 2.5 hours to get all the baked in grime out of the interior pieces.

Goo-gone is reasonably safe. I have used a spray on adhesive remover, but it is volatile! I think LSG has you going the right direction.

oh on a side note be very careful with certain cleaners as they don't play nicely with clear plastics (IE the instrument panel cover...). Also if you have never really purchased any cleaners (you would be amazed how many haven't).

Here are the ones I use:

Meguiar's / 16 oz. Leather Spray Moisturizer and Cleaner - ONLY FOR LEATHER!

Meguiar's / 16 oz. Rubber and Vinyl Natural Shine Spray Protectant - for almost all your interior

Meguiar's / 16 oz. Quik Interior Detailer - Use after every car wash or @ least once a week.

****
When using a spray it is best to spray the cloth and not the surface..as an example the only leather peice in my car currently is my steering wheel lol I wouldnt want to spray that because the leather cleaner would go everywhere.
****

Note before cleaning any interior please dust it off first lol. I use a microfiber cloth to remove dust before actually using the cleaning supply's otherwise you will double the work needed because your smearing dust and dirt around. Also it might not hurt to plan on using several terry cloth towels the first time you clean your interior - Reason you ask? the cleaner the cloth the better the result and the less time you have to spend cleaning (see smearing dirt and grime above lol)

the dashboard itself is in prime condition, the cover did its job. its just that the previous owner i think never intended to remove the carpet/mat dashboard cover thing (there is a name for these...im sure of it lol).

a couple of the spots are by the windshield vents, this is going to be terribly fun~

sounds like goo gone is my best bet, i was worried it would destroy the dashboard by removing the leather dyes adding frustration and cost to cleaning up the sticky residue. as for the super glue, ive never tried goo-gone to remove it..would i be able to try acetone if goo gone fails?

i appreciate the input guys.

oops i missed the part about the super glue....I think i would use a very fine sandpaper on that and just gently remove it then use goo-gone after to clean it up followed by the interior cleaner.

take your time with sandpaper and use a very fine block.
