DETAIL: L.E.D. bulbs for you MR2 improves look of car

I recently changed out my incandescent/halogen bulbs in the rear taillights with new #1157 red L.e.d. bulbs. They cost $17.00 a pair from Autozone and make you MR2 look a lot newer. I wish I could post pictures of the small detailing mod, but trust me it makes any MR2 look newer.

The RED LED's are bright (will supposedly last longer) and improve aesthetically the look of our older classic cars. Let me know if anyone else on the board tries it or has already done this. If possible post pictures. I will try to. Just wanted to let those that are really into details know what worked for me.

Did you have to use a resistor to get them to work correctly?

I've seen the ones hes talking about and the base is just like a stock bulb that you have to push in and twist, to lock it in. No resistor needed. I have Rev. 6 rears and I'm going to get me some to make all the lights in the rear match.

No just plug in and they work just like ordinary bulbs. They look a whole lot newer. I will post pictures when I can. Then you will see what I am talking about.

Okay I will take a picture at night and one int day and send them so you post them. I would like to see what you guys think. I think it looks a lot newer like some of the 2008's and 2009 cars on the road. I get looks all the time when people are behind me because they have never seen anything like it.

No. They have a bunch of LED's instead of one, so the extra bulbs compensate.

I did my gauge cluster, similar idea plug and play bulbs.

I think i'm going to put LED's in my tail lights, and front turn signals some time this week as well

You will need to swap out your flasher relay or use load resistors for the turn signals to avoid fast/ricer flash. For your brakes/runnings and marker lights you won't need anyting special. I'd recommend getting tower style bulbs, strait firing units tend to have a bright spot in the middle and the rest of the housing is dimmer...

Thanks. So what just get any old flasher relay, or is there something specific i have to get. I thought that the extra bulbs added up to roughly the same resistance.

Ya i'd like to avoid the ricer flash like all the sunfire's and cavaliers where the owner is too cheap to replace a burnt out bulb

yea...... i don't want to mess up your thread i'm just stating my opinion. But those lights really don't do much except focus all the light into one tiny dot. The original actuall flood the entire housing giving it a fuller apearance.
I tried them out and returned them the same day. If you find some L.E.D.'s that focus light in all directions then you are on to something.

No problem bro....I thank you for your counter point opinion. This is when it gets to your personal taste and preference and also what L.E.D. bulb you buy. Keep in mind some are not as bright as others. I have tried many different brands to run the look that I have right now. So keep that in mind.

The ones I have are very very bright!!! Some they sell at Pepboys made by Pilot are much dimmer. I bought a pair of each and tried them side by side so....you may have gotten the dimmer brand and didn't like the look. Also I don't want the whole taillight lit up anymore it looks just like all MR2'and and I intentionally wanted something unique and individual to my car that looks new. Like a said it is up to the brand you use how bright it is.

If you still want L.E.D. that light up the whole taillight....well I have tried those as well. They cost $20-29 each at Pepboys and they have L.E.D's in all directions but I didn't like it because I purposely wanted just the focal point on the two bright L.E.D. bulbs.
