Radar Detector

I have a mk1 and i plan on making my EEE a very important part of it. at the moment i will have a line from my laptop to the radio, i have a usb gps and a power inverter. i plan on researching how to install a webcam for fun but also i want to know if anyone has heard of a radar detector that can comunicate with a computer? i happen to live in Virginia, 1 of the 2 states that ban them but i want one installed. i was thinking about installing a kill switch and mounting the detector somewhere in the frunk or something. i can't do that with most modern detectors unless someone knows a way. any ideas?

I personaly dont know how to or where to get one but I saw an eposode of either overhaulin or unique whips where they had put a radar system in the car that had sensors in the grill and under the rear lip to where you would never even know it was there I dont know if it would hook up to a laptop though.

Radar Detector

BTW, what is EEE? I am behind the times....

About interfacing the radar dectector to the computer, I have several ideas.
One, why bother? Howabout putting the detector in a different "box" and label it something else, like a weather radio? Maybe mount the detector up front behind the grill and extend the wiring and mount the control panel up front, again with discreet lettering.

As far as an actual interface, I would guess taking the audio source from the speaker connection, maybe use a frequency to voltage program to create a visual display. Hmm the computer might have an audio spectrum analyzer for music. Select a bar graph display!

It is possible to interface to the detector's lights..... That would be model-specific. Final thought-use the audio output.

Just an FYI in many states they have radar detector detectors in the cop cars...meaning they can find the one you have running if it is illigal to do so. there are many companies that make detectors with remote sensors taht go in the bumpers but the cost is not worth it for what you can get to interface with what you already want to ahve with the EEE.

Kerry.. a EEE is a tiny computer, think smaller than a laptop but. They are the some of the small motherboards that run the "netbooks". I ran a pico-ITX in my car basically a computer the size of a pack of cigarettes..

"VG2 Cloaking" is the feature you want to look for. It's supposed to protect you from detector detectors. I live in Maryland where its alright to run a detector, but I've gone through DC, VA, NJ, and PA with it on before and never been stopped, even passing through speed traps. Got a 8500 X50 btw

i was reading about the laws and these detector detectors... i live in VA and its not liked here heh. i basicly am going to be interfacing alot of systems into my EEE and the reason for the radar detector is because i wanted to be able to put the sensors in the front somewhere and be able to hide the rest of it. my EEE will be wired into my audio system and it would be great to hear the radar detector over the audio.

ill be sure to read up on vg2 cloaking
