Street Brawler question

I remember seeing somewhere that you offer other choices of Turbos for your kit, what are they...? And what is the cost...???

www.koracing.net.

They have two basic options. If you have a largely stock motor, you will want the 46-trim option.

Check out their site. They have a ton of products.

yeah, but i think they are in the works of adding a few more options as far as turbo kits to the collection. But i think they are being sneaky about it right now till they get the R&D done.

I'll be holding out to see what they offer before making my final decision on how I want to blow my motor.

It will probably happen, im reaching into unknown waters with my build. No worries though, i have a backup I just want to see if it can be done properly, if it blows...eh, back to the drawing board.

I hear ya... I did that with my last motor... It was fun while it lasted. Now everything is being built a little at a time and whatever I replace is being replaced with nothing but the best.

yeah, thats what im starting with. Custom pistons, custom billet cams from australia, basically custom everything.

Now i need to convince Kris for a little customizing on his (hopefully) up and coming turbo kits

they have a gt35r option. Basically the swap flanges for the same ones on their street brawler kit so that they'll be interchangeable.

here is a pic of one of the firsts (or maybe the only one currently :dontknow: )

Nevermind, I finally found the post I saw it on...

Quote:
The SB turbos come with standard 270deg thrust bearings. This has not proven to be a reliability issue with any customer's car, despite constantly having my vendor's sales pitch quoted. Also, of the four failures we've ever had with the turbos, 2 were Ken's, and that was over a year and a half ago and we've had no failures since. I'm not sure why he continues to bring up this dirty laundry other than to try and make my turbo kits look bad -- there are several threads where this information has been covered extensively, but some people refuse to grow up and continue in their juvenille mud slinging.

As far as what BB turbos we can integrate into the SB kit: GT3071, GT3076, GT3040/3082, GT3540/3582 -- and we can also upgrade the t3/t4's in our kit to dual BB CHRAs. The GT series or BB t3/t4 kits are $2900. Also, the standard SB price is reducing to $2190.

Hey Kris or Lily,

Can I run 15psi safely with a SB50 on a Gen3 with the basic bolt ons? i.e. intercooler (SM), exhaust, intake, stock 540cc's, 255 pump, and stock internals, fuel rail and regulator.

What is the highest PSI and rwhp I can get before changing out internals, fuel mods, ems, etc...? If I choose to run stock internals should I just go w/ the sb46? Thanks

15 psi on SB50-gen3 is fine, you can go as high as 17-18 psi. But might want to dyno it to check to make sure your not running out of fuel if you go to 17-18psi.
IF you choose to stay with the stock internals go with the SB46. Better spool and has comparable power.

Are the Street Brawler Kits, SB46 and SB50 oil cool only? Is there an option for water cool? I believe someone mentioned that the Street Brawler kit T3/T4 can be upgraded with a dual BB CHRA. Would that be oil cool only as well?

Yes you can get the turbos water cooled for $150. $75 to upgrade the turbo to 360 bb.

Hello,

I've read some good things, actually great things about your "Street Brawler" kit, the high value of the kit and the impressive quality of the components - especially in SB46 trim. It's only a few hundred bucks more than a new OEM turbo and that's just icing on the cake considering the completeness of the kit.

However, my car is more or less stock except for an MBC/FCD and some TRD bolt-ons. Intake & exhaust are also stock and I don't have any intention of changing them. I like my cars fast, sophisticated and quiet (except when I floor it).

So let's say my turbo dies tomorrow and I want to replace it. Now I may be one of the very few in the world that doesn't heavily subscribe to "You can never have too much horsepower" because I think my turbo '2 is plenty fast - I know how to drive it right to get a lot out of it. What I'm looking for is to replace the aged turbo with a quality product that won't have annoying problems in a year or 3 - basically TOYOTA reliability. What can you tell me about the following?

- the Street Brawler's reliability.
- What sort of warranty do you offer? (sorry, I must have missed it on your web page).
- How loud is the new downpipe, in fact the whole kit? What sort of decibel increase am I looking at if everything else stays the same?
- Will I have to mod anything else for your kit to work properly?
- If I don't mod anything else am I compromising your kit's reliability or its function in the long run?
- Can you honestly recommend the Brawler kit to me if I intend to stay stock for everything else? Basically, as a direct replacement for my OEM turbo/downpipe.
- There's a pesky asterisk on your Brawler webpage: "*Note: This is not an emissions legal part." Which part? All of it? I live in a province with emissions testing and I pass every year in my current form.

Sorry for all the questions and the long post, thank you in advance.

- Pete

California emissions inspections requires a visual. Non-stock turbos of any kind will fail these visual emissions. Most other places don't have this. Here in Colorado, they are fairly Nazi-esque, and I pass just fine. Emissions legal...here.

I have been running with my water-cooled SB46 now for probably 2-3 years and thousands of miles, and I have had so much as a drip of leaking oil or anything. The turbo performs flawlessly!

^ I "think" Enthalpy meant to say that he has NOT had so much as a drip of leaking oil...

I have an sb46, and have driven it several thousand miles with no leaks or reliability issues...even without the watercooled or 360° bearing upgrades. I wouldn't worry about reliability at all. My motor is stock and unopened but any aftermarket turbos will perform better with upgraded intercooler, and freer-flowing exhausts. Being able to limit boost pressure also becomes more important with larger aftermarket turbos.
