Attn: Aaron, Lithia Toyota
Hi Aaron,
I'm writing on behalf of the Ontario MR2 Club, there are 5+ members who want to buy 93+ lips and so we wanted to know the possibility of getting a group buy on them? Otherwise, we could work it to share the shipping among the members, so if that's the case, how many lips can fit in a box? Of course, they would be shipped to one address. Our location is Toronto (M5H 3P5) or Hamilton (L8M 2H9), Ontario, Canada. Does it make a difference if it's a business address (we have that as well)... Thanks for your help! Bern, I think this might be a good idea. The only hitch is that we would have to ship via UPS. Even if I wanted to use USPS, the lip is too large and they won't touch it anyway. I am speaking with UPS to see why they charge so much for customs fees and how we can minimize them and hopefully estimate them before the parts are shipped. If shipping is reasonable, we can probably go ahead with the GB. Still gotta run this by the boss...

If we're doing a to-Canada GB, I'm in, although I'm not sure it'll help me much since I'm on the west coast. Shipping complications are what have kept me from already getting one of these from Aaron.
UPS is by far the worst out of themselves, USPS and FedEx because they charge a (high) flat rate brokerage fee. |

Hi,
thanks for getting back to us Aaron! I guess we will have to wait and see what the best method to ship is. Canadam, unfortunately, I personally don't want to get involved with re-shipping (I just don't have time, sorry), but if one of the other OMR2 Club members is willing to handle it, I have no issues with that. Either way, we'll keep in touch and figure it out somehow. |

Yeah, it might just be easier to purchase straight from Aaron.

I think so, cause you'd need it shipped from Ontario anyway...

Yes and no. I spent twenty minutes on the phone with UPS trying to sort things out. Part of the reason they charge so much for import duties is that they are also charging a brokerage fee for collecting duties on the goods. According to the contact I spoke with, that fee is 2% of the value of the goods, with a minimum fee of $10. When I am printing up a shipping label, I have the option of having UPS charge us directly for the duties, but that also comes with an automatic $15 fee. These fees are over and above the shipping costs and import duty charges.
Everybody already knew it was going to cost extra money to go through UPS, but now we know where part of that money goes. I also asked if there was a way we could predict what the actual customs/duty fees would be ahead of time, before we sold or shipped anything, and the UPS contact referred me to a Canadian gov't agency. She gave me a phone number and website, neither of which I can access from work: (506)636-5064 Welcome to the Canada Border Services Agency | Bienvenue à l'Agence des services frontaliers du Canada That's the best I can come up with for now. Hopefully some helpful Canadian can get farther than I did in understanding what you're going to pay to get your parts and how to predict the charges. |
