Final Friday: Factory Floormat Frenzy

Most of you know that the OEM Toyota mats have been discontinued for some time. We were told they were discontinued last year but they kept rolling in to the warehouses every so often. Last time some showed up I bought all the stock I could and we have been storing them until now, getting all the pics and info we need to have a decent replica mat made. We are now ready to sell off our stock. The boss wants all these gone before he will give the go-ahead to tool up for the replica mats.

The fact of the matter is that in order to offer a quality replica of the OEM floormat with the features most people want, we will have to sell them at around $99 a pair. This is due to the lower volume and custom work comapred to Toyota ordering hundreds of the same mats a year for several years in a row.

With that price in mind I think it is fair to charge $99 shipped for the remaining OEM mats. I have seen these mats go for a lot more on eBay, but I don't want to charge absurd prices.

We have four sets of OEM Toyota floormats in stock, available to MR2.com members Friday 03/21/08, starting at 9:00 AM Pacific daylight time. There is a limit of one per customer. Because of their rarity we are limiting these only to people who have not purchased a set within the last year. As always, you can order with any major credit card by calling me at (541)736-3221 direct, or (800)888-6305 toll free.

This is a first come, first served sale. Please, no dibs. I will update this post when they are gone.

In case there is any confusion, these are part number 00200-17940-01, labelled "black", but really a charcoal gray color. Here's a pic of the OEM driver's side mat I am offering next to a prototype (not a finished product) of the aftermarket replica:

After looking at the picture...out of curiosity, since you didn't say....will the replica's only come with the heal plate stitched on, of for those whom prefer the look of no heal plate and don't mind not having one, will it be offered without one as well?

Also, since you are a toyota dealer, will you be able to embroider the MR2 logo into the new mats? I just thought I'd ask these questions, since you said there were 4 sets, and people whom miss out on the remaining OEM mats you have might be interested to know

The heel pad will be optional, and will be in a different location on the production mats. They got the location just right on the MkI mats. We will "probably" be able to get the embroidery replicated with no issues, but until they are in our hands, I don't want to guarantee anything. I'm a little superstitious, I guess.

Thanks Aaron! That's good news. It would be great if they are able to replicate the embroidery. Keep us posted. Also, what kind of color options will you have, and if you do a grommet, will it be optional for those of us who don't care for/need the grommet on the mats?

There should be colors to suit any MR2 interior. I have color samples here at my desk, but nothing visual to show yet. Grommet will probably be optional.

It's a little hard to predict all the details because this project going forward depends on me selling all the existing OEM stock.

Will do, thanks. BTW, just got mine in about 30 minutes ago...and they fricking kick ass!! Nothing fits like OEM! Thanks again. I know there's a 1 set limit, but wish I could have gotten 2, always need an extra set of those in case 1 gets messed up.
