5VZFE master rebuild kit

Hey, I'm hoping that Toyota sells a master rebuild kit-minus pistons. I see a lot of stuff online that doesn't mention any brand, but vary in price from 3xx-9xxUSD and I don't want to get hosed.

If you missed the title, the engine is a 5VZ. Thanks a bunch!

There are definately "cheaper" parts than what Toyota is willing to put their name on. Some aftermarket parts are decent, some are quite good, but many are just plain built down to a price, and I think the implications of that are pretty clear.

Toyota apparently does not expect that their engines will ever fully wear out, or they do not expect that they'll need to be completely remachined like you would do with an old 327 or something, because they package most things individually. Bearings are only sold in engine sets if you grind the crank undersized; otherwise you get them individually in precision sub-sizes. I will pick bearings in the middle of the size range for the quote here and will assume a 2000 Tacoma...that should get us pretty close. I'm not saying you will need all of this; this is just a list of most of the things I could think of that you might need.

04111-62130 - $350.65 - Overhaul gasket set
13011-62100 - $182.48 - Piston ring set, STD
13041-62030-02 - $10.30 - Connecting rod bearing, mark 2 (x6)
11701-62022-03 - $15.46 - Main bearing "no. 2" (first), mark 3
11071-65011-03 - $26.68 - Main bearing "no. 1" (second, third, fourth), mark 3 (x3)
11011-62010 - $34.35 - Thrust washer set
13265-62030 - $2.90 - Connecting rod bolt (x12)
90179-08118 - $0.83 - Nut, connecting rod (x12)
90910-02077 - $4.36 - Cylinder head bolt (x16)
13568-69095 - $38.61 - Timing belt
13540-62021 - $30.78 - Tensioner
13505-62070 - $94.77 - Idler no. 1 (tensioner)
13503-62040 - $70.63 - Idler no. 2
15100-62050 - $144.18 - Oil pump
16100-69398-83 - $97.88 - Water pump
90916-03075 - $13.68 - Thermostat
19037-62010 - $48.31 - Spark plug wire set
90919-01192 - $2.44 - Spark plug (x6)
00295-00103 - $10.62 - FIPG oil pan sealant

You are a beautiful, beautiful man.

I'm waiting for the verdict from my mechanic/machinist to see if I need oversized anything. But when that comes in, I'll be placing an order.

Thanks for taking the time to look into this for me, too.

Also, not sure if it matters significantly- but the engine came from a '97 4Runner. I apologize for not mentioning that right off the bat.

Really? $85 for aftermarket "standard" size vs. $158 for Toyota precision-sized bearings...personally, I'd spend the extra $73 and know that the bearing clearances are EXACTLY right. There are many ways to save money, but deep inside the engine isn't where I like to cheap out. I'm not saying Toyota makes the only parts that are ever worth considering, but they make the only bearings that I know are really correct.

well they were actually 20 over on the rods and 10 over on the main, i don't think toyota would do that for ya and i measured with plastigauge and the bearings are within spec.

My sentiments exactly. Otherwise, I wouldn't have asked.

I work on airplanes for a living. I've seen what happens when you use things that are cheaper than the lowest bidder stuff.

The oil pump pickup tube gasket? Yes, still available, and I think we keep it in stock though I don't know the part number OTOH. I can check Tuesday if you like, or you can give me a call then.

Well, actually it is in my banner ad, but my banner ad doesn't show up most of the time. I don't know why. Ncturnal, is that a common problem?

My number is (541)736-3221 direct, or (800)888-6305 toll free.

It turns out I don't actually keep them in stock for a 5S-FE, but they're not hard to get. I wonder too if the 3SGTE one would fit, since we stock it.

15149-74020 - $0.83 - Gasket, oil strainer

Feel free to pick this up locally if you don't have anything else you need to buy from us. It doesn't always make sense to come to us for nickel and dime stuff, and I understand that.

NECRO THREAD FROM BEYOND!

Just had a bunch of setbacks lately. The prices of gas out here in Cali gave me the nudge I needed to invest in a Jetta TDI. And I had a few health issues. Now that it's paid off and I'm out of the asylum (muahahaha!) I can buy things!

Just wanted to know if the overhaul gasket set (04111-62130) price is the same now, and when the best time of day to call you is.

Thanks so much!

EDIT: ALSO, is it possible to buy the bolts connecting the CV shafts to the CV joints seperate from buying a new joint?
