I'd change the t-top guides to eccentric ones, too

You can get them at Lithia when you make your order, Aaron will know the part number for you. They're cheap too
If you change to new seals, you might actually have a problem closing the tops with eccentric guides. I'm not sure, but I think they're designed for rubber that's gotten tired over the years. Ask Aaron, he'll know Themselves, they might be a cheap fix for your leak. |

My on-car experience is all MkI
But I'd say the seals are a good start, and probably due for replacement anyway. The prices you listed were from a sale that ended last month. They are now $38.14 each. The eccentric rod guides are below. The first number is for the ones that support the rods in the glass panels, and the second number is the female guides on the body corners, near the door glass. It looks like the kbox kit gets you four of the female body guides.63283-17040 - $4.08 each - Guide, removable roof, panel (lock) 63284-17030 - $1.72 each - Guide, removable roof, female (body) Last edited by te51levin; 09-05-2008 at 09:06 PM.. Yeah, try the guides first. Why not? You may break the old guides getting them out, but if not, it'd be a good idea to save them just for the sake of not throwing things away.

sorry so late getting back to you. Got a question about the guides. I'm not understanding where the 17040 ones go. Per a post i was reading on leaks they showed the 17040 guides as being the ones to replace....whats the difference (fyi: where the rod goes into the guide in the front and back is exactly where i'm leaking)
here's the post: At full retail price, they are $2.20 per piece from the dealer, so $9 total. Like the male guides eccentric guides have 4 different adjustments, they snap in at an off-center angle, so you have 4 different a adjustments. Here is a side by side pic, of the OEM "type-b" eccentric guides versus the regular "type-a" oem guides. These are OEM pieces, and give you another adjustment option for the t-tops besides the male guides. I thought I'd post this up, because I have seen quite a few people on here buy these from Kbox for $20, and you can get these same pieces direct from a Toyota dealership for only $9 for the 4 ($2.20 each retail price). ![]() |

![]() There are 2 types of Eccentric guides for the t-tops, 17030 and 17040. Both are are eccentric guides. 17040 is the male part, the rod that comes out of the t-top itself. With that, you replace the Rod on the t-top roof which an eccentric (aka "off-center") one. You twist the rod in one of 4 directions, and it will pull the t-op in a difference direction, pulling it tighter, etc. 17030 is the female guides, the pocket that attaches to the car body. The guides go into these pockets. For what it's worth, 63284-17030 is the EXACT SAME part Kbox sells that you referenced. The only difference is they charge a HECK of a lot more than Aaron will charge you, so just get them from Aaron. 63284-17030 replaces the existing centered female pocket with an off centered one. Again, it is adjustable in 4 directions, which helps you pull the t-tops down tighter and eliminates leaks. It's easier to install than 17040, as the old pockets pop out and the new ones pop in. I'd put them in so they pull the window down and out, helping it pull tighter against the window. After I fixed my leaking drain tubes that helped cause THE wet rear floor pan I had, I was still leaking from the t-top/windows in the front, near where the rod goes into the guide pocket. I used the pocket shown in the picture, 17030, and it worked great. Both 17040 and 17030 allow you to adjust the t-tops alignment, they just go about it different ways. Different ends to the same means. I tried the 17030 guides before trying the 17040 rods, as they are easier to put in. I only needed the guides and some shin-etsu grease. I had awful leaks when I got my car, even after I fixed the drain tubes. The type-b 17030 guides and shin-etsu grease fixed the leaks. Remember, the guides can go in 4 different ways, so make sure to put them in so they pull the window down and out onto the window so they pull the front seal tighter. If I didn't make any sense, let me know and I'll try to explain it better ![]() Last edited by eckoman_pdx; 09-05-2008 at 06:53 AM.. |

eckoman_pdx, that is very helpful. Thank you very much for the clarification. I have also updated/edited my comments above to correct the errors I made.

I don't see any gap on my screen, except maybe something behind the headlight panel. Is that it? Can you raise the height of that panel to match the frunk lid, or adjust the frunk lid down at the corner via the rubber stoppers? |

On the mkI I think you can adjust that with 3 or 4 bolts that hold the headlight assembly on. Just loosen them up and manuver it around till it lines up.
