28100-74021-84 - $124.31 - Starter, remanufactured
Core charge - $30.00 - refundable w/ return of rebuildable Toyota starter

If it's just giving you the infamous Nippondenso click when you turn the key, have you tried replacing the solenoid contacts?

That's when you turn the key to the Start position and all you hear is a solid click, but the starter does not crank. When that happens, the solenoid is engaging, but due to worn contacts in the solenoid, the starter motor does not receive enough current to actually turn over.

i will check and see if it does that... no one uses the car any more except for my mom sometimes when no one is around to drive her. be a lot cheaper to replace a solenoid than getting a starter.

thanks again

No problem. Just to be clear though, the solenoid is part of the starter, and you don't actually replace it unless you are replacing the starter. If you have the click, you just take the plunger out of the starter and replace two little brass contacts that bolt into the starter housing. There's one where the battery cable attaches and one on the other side of the starter that takes current from the solenoid to the starter motor itself.

Davis beat me to it.

I'm sorry, I don't know quite what you're asking. There are screws and nuts (which are not the same thing) all over the place. What, exactly, are you trying to do?

Deni, we are not suggesting that you replace nuts. We are suggesting that you replace solenoid contacts INSIDE the starter. These are little copper tabs that attach to the inside of the starter. Read this article:

Dorikaze - Canada's Old School Toyota Enthusiasts!

Note that the part numbers may not be the ones you need, but that article shows clearly what the contacts are and how to inspect and replace them.
