I'm almost afraid to ask...

But how much would a turbo axle hub be? A wheel bearing inner race fused to my old one, and I need to replace it ASAP.

Thanks!

Bummer. I hate it when things weld themselves up! I'm assuming we're talking about the rear, correct?

42301-17020 - $233.32 - Hub sub-assy, rear, SW20 turbo
90369-43008 - $55.84 - Bearing
90521-88001 - $4.76 - Snap ring

Saved on quote number 47860. Thank you sir!

Sweet jumping jeebus, that's an expensive piece of steel. I've already got a bearing and snap ring tho, but I think i will need the five lug studs...unless the assy comes with. And yes, it's for the rear. Anyway, if I have to get it through you, it'll have to wait about another week, that's not gonna fit in this paycheck.

Thanks for the info Aaron, I'll keep you posted.

You aren't kidding. It's pretty brutal.

Actually, they're included, so you're all set.

I had the same damn thing happen to me. I ended up having to go another path. I coudlnt believe toyota wants (even with the awesome pricing Aaron gives us) that much for a hub.

It's bizarre, especially considering how cheap some other hubs are. For example, front hubs on an AW11 are $101.31 each, and rear hubs are $60.48 apiece. There is no logical explanation for the huge disparity in price unless it is heavily tied to sales volume. The fact that the AW11 rear hub is also used on a lot of FWD Corollas means they sell in huge numbers compared to the SW20-only rear hub.

Hmmm...and here I thought low supply and low demand meant lower prices. C'est la vie I guess.

Aaron, quick clarification question. Is the quoted price for the whole assembly, or just the axle shaft? I only need the single piece the lug studs are attached to.

It's for the hub itself - in other words, the flange that the rotor and wheel bolt to, and that the splined portion of the axle shaft goes through.

In our assembly theres 2 pieces. The hub and the spindle.

The spindle is what the brake caliper bracket attaches to. The spindle is what attaches to the strut itself. Etc.

The hub presses into the spindle and the bearing spins the hub between the spindle.

Dont even ask him how much a hub AND spindle is....

wait, what fused? the INNER race fused to the spindle?

ive never had a bearing not fuse to the spindle. you take an angle grinder and cut a slit in the race, put a flathead screwdriver in there and *pop*, off comes your race.

got that backwards the spindle is the piece with lug studs on it.

that thing.. its not an mr2 part, but looks the same.

the hub houses the bearing and bolts to the strut.

Dude, I've tried chisels at the base of the race, used and angle grinder to cut grooves for a press, and tried torching the thing. It is ON THERE, and it's not coming off as far as I or any of the guys in the shop can tell. Plus, the exposed half of the shaft is corroded/pitted halfway to hell and gone. It looks like even if I could get the half of the race on there off, the tolerances to a new bearing would be so bad i'd just trash a new one in no time.

OUCH TOM! BURNSAUCE!!

JK LOL.

Toyotas terminology may be off according to you, but I know what the terminology is, cause Ive dealt with this exact same issue before and I called Aaron and got quotes for all the stuff.

Aaron, would it bother you if I told him the way I went so I didnt have to bend over and take a giant unlubricated one from Toyota?

Luni, if you have knowledge that benefits the community, that trumps an exorbitant and unnecessary part sale any way.

Tom, Google the phrase "drop spindle" and see what you find. Also, when was the last time you went off-roading with somebody who had to turn in the spindles?

NEVVAARRRR!!! is when.

Hes right Tom. Off road guys turn in the hub. LOL. You just got Double Pwned.

To the OP, just call Josh at CRW. He has rear hub/spindle assemblies laying around. He sold me mine for pretty cheap compared to what it would cost me to get the 2 new items from Toyota. Actually the assembly was cheaper than one hub.

I still had a new bearing pressed into it though. But yeah, call Josh. Tell him Luni told you to bug him. Or just email the_mister3 at yahoo.com
