two sensors responsible for temperature

Hi I really need the two sensors that check the temperature and make the temp. gauge work, I think one is the water temperature sensor (ecu) and the other is for the actual gauge

thanks

OK, cool. There are actually three parts that read coolant temperature in that housing...
This is the vertical one. It has a single wire, and it sends a signal to the instrument cluster:
83420-16020 - $19.62 - Gage, water temperature

This one leans forward at an angle. It has two wires and it sends its signal to the ECU:
89422-20010 - $49.34 - Sensor, water temperature, for ECU
90430-12005 - $0.78 - Gasket for above

Finally, this one is horizontal, and it only operates the cold start injector:
89462-20020 - $125.44 - Cold start injector time switch

These are written up on quote number 50219 for the time being. Thanks man!

quick question though, my temp gauge isn't working and i was wondering if the reason it isnt is because either the water temp gage and water temp. sensor have failed?

does the cold start time switch have much to do with the gauge?

First I should clarify something. The part I listed as "gage", 83420-16020, is not the instrument in your dashboard. It is the sending unit that runs the gage. Toyota calls it a gage, so that's what I wrote - although Toyota also calls an engine oil dipstick a "gage", so...gotta be careful. Describing the part clearly is far more useful than relying on the name Toyota (or anyone else) assigns it.

The problem is more likely to be the sending unit than the gauge in the dash, but unless you take the time to diagnose the problem, we're really guessing. Still, I do sell the sending unit with some regularity, which indicates that it is a fairly common problem.
