mk1 e-brake cables
Hey,
I've got an '87 NA. I need a quote for new e-brake cable(s) for it. Thanks. EDIT: I did find a post about this from april (i originally searched for "e-brake" and it didn't come up but it did under "parking brake"). Are the prices still the same? |

Yeah it doesn't engage and it *appears* to be the cables.

Typically, if you are unable to pull the parking brake handle up and/or unable to move the levers on the calipers, that indicates seized cables.
46420-17030 - $54.37 - Brake cable, RH 46430-17030 - $58.54 - Brake cable, LH Got 'em both in stock if you need them. Thanks! |

You probably won't need the front cable. They seldom fail. Still, they are available if you need one.
46410-17021 - $29.26 - Brake cable, front |

What would be the symptoms of a failed front cable?
My brake has a ton of slop/dead travel and "clicks" only twice at the very end of its throw. But even once it's clicked the brake doesn't hold. |

Sounds like both of you need to adjust the front cable before buying anything. If a cable is broken, or if you can disconnect both ends and you still can't move it, then it needs to be replaced.

I have the same issue, so i guess i need the 2 back ones, cuz my ebrake handle functions exactly like one that has the top cable lol (i can still pull it all the way back) I sorta took a peek and i think i saw the cable still hooked in. So does that mean i need to spend 100$ on the cables?

That's about what it means. Bad news is, cables aren't cheap (and cheap cables aren't good), but the good news is they'll last many years before requiring replacement again.

You're not likely to find them. Keep in mind, you're replacing a part that has failed through old age and exposure to the elements. The same conditions apply to anything you find at a wrecking yard. *If* you find cables that haven't seized yet, they may not last long before they seize up too.
