Thumbs up SEARCH FIRST! Gen2 Turbo timing belt job & suggestions

How much for a copy of the 1992 BGB turbo?

Need to do my clutch soon, what is an upgraded clutch from stock that i can be rough on at times but wont kill my leg?

Have always had an oil leak and would like to replace most seals/gaskets so price on gasket set?

Timing Belt, tensioner, water pump?

Any other suggestions while im in the process of all this?

You are really better off buying that directly from the Toyota Materials Distribution Center. There's not enough markup in it for me to offer you a discount, and by buying direct you will save money on shipping. You can find their contact information here:

That's a good question, but I'm an OEM parts guy, so I am not the best qualified to give advice on aftermarket clutches.

For a total reseal, you'll want an engine overhaul gasket set 04111-74240, and oil pump shaft seal 15165-88382, an oil pump o-ring 15188-03011, and a tube of FIPG sealant 00295-00103. Some kid called the other day and ripped me a new one because he just discovered that the engine gasket set he bought two months ago didn't include fuel injector o-rings, and little Baby Unicorn Princess Jr. expected that he could stomp his feet and have them flown in free of charge. So it's worth mentioning that those are not included, either.

These are things that we get asked for all the time, and they are quoted out all over the place, so you'll save us both a lot of time by searching the Lithia forum before you post. Since we're already going for it, we'll just take the shotgun approach and lay everything out right here. In fact I am just going to copy and paste from an email I sent to another customer last week to save a little time...

There’s a pretty good “while you’re there” list to address when you do a timing belt on a turbo car, and while the timing belt itself is not expensive, it quickly snowballs to hundreds of dollars in parts. This list is more or less in the order of what job leads to the next job. I.E. if you’re going to do the timing belt, you may as well do the seals, because they are cheap (and buried); the idlers and tensioner are not cheap, but they are also a headache to get to; the water pump is equally buried, and may be showing wear; if you replace the pump you may as well throw a new thermostat at it; if you’re in behind the water pump, you’re at the HFHOE; if you get to the HFHOE you may as well replace the HFH while you are there, and that is as good a time as any to reseal the oil cooler. The valve cover gaskets aren't necessarily going to be disturbed, though they might warrant replacement if you pull the cam gears to replace the cam seals. The alternator belt depends on whether the car has power steering or not.

13568-79045 - Timing belt
90311-35040 - Cam seal (order two)
90080-31022 - Crank seal
15165-88382 - Oil pump shaft seal
15188-03011 - Oil pump o-ring
13540-88382 - Timing belt tensioner
13505-88383 - Timing belt idler no.1
13503-63011 - Timing belt idler no.2
16100-79127 - Water pump
90916-03075 - Thermostat
16282-88380 - Hose From Hell On Earth
16283-88381 - Hose From Hell
16258-88383 - Gasket between HFH fitting and oil cooler
96732-19019 - Oil cooler bracket to block inner o-ring
15517-88380 - Oil cooler bracket to block outer o-ring
15785-35010 - Oil cooler to bracket inner gasket
90301-52006 - Oil cooler to bracket outer o-ring
11213-88381 - Valve cover gasket, outer
11214-88381 - Valve cover gasket, inner
90916-02341-83 - Alternator belt, w/ manual steering
99364-70830-83 - Alternator belt, w/ power steering
90916-02365-78 - A/C compressor belt

We are trying to encourage people to use the website, LithiaToyotaParts.com whenever possible; it gets you prices right away, whether I am working or not, and saves us a lot of time too. Certainly if you decide to place an order it is easiest to do it at the website. Just make sure you use that link - some people are doing an internet search and landing at a very similar but different site, run by our corporate offices rather than by our particular store, and their orders are not coming here. There are MR2s at the top of our site so that will identify us clearly. You can just paste the part numbers into the "Search Multiple Part Numbers" box on the home page, and juggle quantities etc as you see fit.

Let me know if you have any questions. This is typically all in stock. Thanks man!

Oops, probably a slip of the mouse. I meant two cam seals and one timing belt. Sorry. I didn't have my VIN with me to verify, I have a '91t.

No worries, we should be good to go, and you will have a tracking number within a short time. Shipping today via UPS to the WA address.

By the way, you coming down for the PacNW meet in Medford this year? We usually get a few BCers down here. It's a good time!

Thanks for straightening that our, Aaron. Those parts should be a sticky someplace!

Won't be making it to Medford this year, but I believe there are already 3 or 4 in the BCMR2 club who look like they're going, probably more as the event nears.

Aaron, I'm compiling a parts list from this post and have a question. I'm completely rebuilding my 91 turbo engine and need some gaskets - I found a botton end gasket kit from a 3rd party that includes the follow, but I'd prefer toyota parts:

Aluminum Washer
Front Crank Seal
Rear Main Seal Retainer Gasket
Oil Pan Gasket
Oil Pump O-Ring
Rear Main Seal
Oil Pump Cover Gasket
Oil Pump Seal
Water Pump Mount Gasket - I'm using a 98 Camry Water pump as this is a 5SGTE build...

I think some of these are in the above list, but can't tell what is what - can you let me know the part numbers for these? Oh, and will the new water pump I'm ordering come with any gaskets?

Thanks!

I don't know what the aluminum washer is for, and there is no oil pan gasket; we use FIPG sealant. I am not sure what you mean by "oil pump cover gasket," but I'm assuming the gasket between oil pump and block, because the only other option is the o-ring you've already listed. A new Toyota water pump will include all relevant gaskets, so you won't need to order them separately. So in roughly the same order, here's your list:

90080-31022 - Crank seal (front)
11383-88381 - Rear main seal retainer gasket
00295-00103 - FIPG sealant (for oil pan)
15188-03011 - Oil pump o-ring
90080-31073 - Rear Main Seal
15197-63021 - Oil pump to block gasket
15165-88382 - Oil pump shaft seal

Awesome - thanks!

I just posted exactly what the other kit said so some of it probably doesn't make sense...

One more quick question...

This is the list I'm ordering:

90311-35040 - Cam seal (2)
90080-31022 - Crank seal
15165-88382 - Oil pump shaft seal
15188-03011 - Oil pump o-ring
16282-88380 - Hose From Hell On Earth
16283-88381 - Hose From Hell
16258-88383 - Gasket between HFH fitting and oil cooler
96732-19019 - Oil cooler bracket to block inner o-ring
15517-88380 - Oil cooler bracket to block outer o-ring
15785-35010 - Oil cooler to bracket inner gasket
90301-52006 - Oil cooler to bracket outer o-ring
90916-02341-83 - Alternator belt, w/ manual steering
90916-02365-78 - A/C compressor belt
13540-88382 - Timing belt tensioner
13505-88383 - Timing belt idler no.1
13503-63011 - Timing belt idler no.2
11383-88381 - Rear main seal retainer gasket
00295-00103 - FIPG sealant (for oil pan)
90080-31073 - Rear Main Seal
15197-63021 - Oil pump to block gasket
16100-79185-83 - '98 Camry Water Pump
90405-10034 - 3SGTE dip stick fitting for 5S Block

My question is since I'm using a 5S Camry block, should I order the 5S version of these parts, or will the 3S work:
15785-35010 - Oil cooler to bracket inner gasket
90301-52006 - Oil cooler to bracket outer o-ring

Thanks again!

Ahhh...ummm...at this point in the day, I am not sure! The only activity left in my skull is some faint popping and clicking sounds. It comes down to whatever oil cooler you're using, which will affect the oil cooler bracket and also the HFH/HFHOE twins, which affect the bypass pipes etc.

I do know you'll want a 5S rear main seal (90080-31021), not the 3S seal, if you're using a 5S crank.

Ha! Thanks for all your help - that popping and clicking is your brain telling you it wants to hear the sound of beer cans and bottles opening!

I'm using the 5S oil cooler and hard pipes - I know you are super busy, if you get a chance to let me know what to change though it would be awesome and I can finally order!

Thanks!

Roger that. I broke down (i.e. my cheapskate nature won out over my usual beer snobbery) and I drug home a bulk pack of PBR the other day. I have to say, it's not bad - by which I mean it's cold and carbonated, and doesn't taste too much like formaldehyde.

If you're using the 5S block and the 5S oil cooler, I would have to assume (here I go again) that you'd want the corresponding seals and gaskets. What year and model oil cooler are you using?

Sure thing. On a '98 Camry, according to my EPC, the only thing between the block and the oil cooler is the large o-ring 90301-52006. Let me know if the oil cooler looks like it has two seals back there and I'll see what else I can find, but for now, that's all I can see.

This is the first report of trouble I've heard recently. If it's still giving you trouble, let me know, and I will talk to the website provider about it.
