Signature
- "Inside the car, the world beyond the driver's immediate horizon ceases to exist. Alone with the solitude of his desire, survival sense numbed by the speed, he's outrun the mediocrity of the outside world, slipped the shackles it tries to clamp on us all. He is running free, chased only by a fear of failure, for failure is to risk ejection into the real world." ~Mark Hughes

First I want to acknowledge that my cams and caps are amazingly carmelized. I took them to work and ran them all through the parts washer but that didn't help matters at all. I'm going to have to take them to a machine shop and have them hot tanked to get them clean I suspect. I need to get the valve covers dipped too so I'll take them all in at once after I have the shim numbers.

- Cylinder Heads (Left and Right)
- Camshafts (1 intake and 1 exhaust per head)

Assembling the valves is pretty straight forward. My biggest challenge was in locating a valve compressor that works. Most of the models I found required more room than is available in the 1mz cylinder head. I ended up settling on a compressor that bolts down where the valve cover attaches and has a bar that runs the length of the head.

First step for me in prepping the heads was to get them dipped and decked. Being on a pretty tight budget I chose to disassemble and reassemble the heads myself.
Visual inspection shows that the oil races are all in good shape. The valve guides all measured in spec then it came time to lap the valves.
Tools needed:
The process is pretty straight forward. Stick the valve to the lapping tool by the suction cup...

So I've got this '91 MR2 that seems to be hungry for engines. So far it's eaten 2 5sfe's at race tracks during HPDEs because of oiling issues. I refuse to believe that an MR2 doesn't want to be driven hard so I'm going to run with the theory that it's hungry for more ponies. After careful consideration I decided to attempt to sate it's hunger with a 1mz swap.
Now because of the fact that I've had 2 engines fail on me I knew I was going to need either a crate motor or one that...
