It's an '87 all stock 5speed.

thanks for your suggestions. i did a series of diagnostics today:

*I used the spark plug testers for all 4 cylinders while my wife turned the key. -All cylinders have sparks-
*while the engine is turned, i inspected the timing belt. -it spun normal-
*everytime the engine is turned(few intervals), i checked the timing belt teeth to make sure no broken teeth. -all teeth are there-
* i checked the harness to the AFM. -it is tight-
*i shorted the FP and B+ in the diagostic box and heard the fuel pump sound

i'm quite dissapointed to see the sparks were good. this means my car has major problem, in which i have no idea what's going on.

other things to do:
to take the timing belt out to make so not a single teeth is broken.

Q: if the AFM connection is lose, won't i see the engine light on?

any thoughts is welcome

Thanks alot for the suggestions!
I haven't had time to further diagnose it. i bought one of those spark plug tester that it would emit light if spark plug works. I'll do that later this evening. if the spark plug works, i'll definitely use the diagnostic method. I never knew other than E1 & T. I recently did that, and all i got was 1(no code, or normal). i'll definitely check the AFM too. thanks for the suggestions. I was kinda close to let my mr2 go on craigslist
