Yeah! Sin city baby! Been once on my honeymoon. A guy could get in alot of trouble! I used to have dreadlocks is why I ask. And for a white guy with red hair, I'd say I pulled it off. I like being odd.

basically, the JDM spec motors have no EGR systems, which add weight and unnecessary vac air flow in order to pass strict emissions standards in AmeriKa. funny thing is, from what i've heard, and seen in my own 2gen JDM 3s-gte motor is, that it had 1 not 2 catalytic converts on it, no EGR, and the ECU is tuned for a more aggressive ignition timing. In order for me to take advantage of those extra 25hp in my motor, i have to run about 94 octane rated fuel because that is the rating that japanese cars are setup from the factor for. In japan and other countries, their "premium gas" is rate around 93-94 compared to our weak 91.

how people import these cars/motors is easy. the car is made in the US so the US government can't say you can't ship in a MR2 Turbo and sell it in the US, and register it legally here. the tricky part is passing emissions test in order to get it register and drive it on the streets. I added a brand new cat for my US spec 91T to get it to pass here in Arizona, and i had a 2.5" DP as well, i just ran octane booster, did a tune up, and really warmed up the car before i brought it in for testing. Mind you, i passed and the car had 2 blown piston ringlands, and i didn't even know it at the time.

From what little I know about the JDM stuff is that these engines are not set up to respond to American required emissions. Makes me want to ask if your still running the ECU that the car came into America with?

These engines with the JDM designations often output higher Horsepower ratings because they do not have all the restrictive smog and emisssions garbage that AmeriKa requires of "whole car" importers.

Dah, I guess that's why these engines are in such demand? Makes me wonder how these importers get around the requirements that are USUALLY required when the whole car is imported?
