Wow, Can't say I have ever seen one of those. Did this car come in convertible stock from the factory?
What do they usually go for? |

Hey, I've seen one of these before!
Only in my dreams! Ha! Nice car and good luck. It'd be pretty cool if it was OEM, but I never even heard of such a thing until the MKIII. |

The factory comissioned ones were built from 1986/7 model year cars. Is your ad mistaken, or who built yours?

Yes the majority of the better known factory approved convertible MK1 MR2's were built in 1986/87. The story behind the convertibles is that in the mid 80's you could go in to the dealer and order your MR2 with a option of going convertible. The this option was done by Toyota at the dealers not in the Japan factory. The car has totally different structure, the strut bars are different but all Toyota parts manufactured for this conversion. The dealers in California did allot better with this option. This car is one of the lucky 7 in Canada and is a 1985. Option was offer from 1984-87 but as we know only the 86-87 got well known because they were the USA California cars that sold well.I will post a pic of the strut bar so that you may all see the odd shaping, later today. I'm looking for the best offer and transportation is available to the US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

15 were made, white or red I believe and I thought it was made by an independant company contracted through Toyota and only 86-87 models were made. And, you got a special card with a number. Anyway, there is a lot of conflicting information about these.
However, that strut bar in the front is no different than any sunroof strut bar that came with the sunroof cars. I'm not sure that your convertible differs from the red convertible owned by someone else I know from the Internet. |
