I bought an Apexi unit that I've been happy with. I never tried to make one since I don't have the tools or skills to do so anyway. In my case, it was worth the $100 so I didn't embarrass myself trying to make one.

http://www.padandwheels.com/mr2/intake/intake.html - bout as good as you're gonna get. You'll lose a tiny bit of bottom end, and gain a bit in the top, as well as a lot more noise. Overall, an OK mod for the money you'll spend. Other than that, I have seen a couple intakes from different companies, and they're not with their weight in poo. There is very little to be gained with the intake on a stock motor, but if you want to do an intake (I did, just to get rid of that damn filter box) just stick with the pad and wheels writeup and do it cheaply. Oh, and don't forget to oil your filter!

Agreed with Dylan. I did mine for the sound, not the performance. When I did it on my 87 I just stuck it right on the pipe in the trunk. I just eliminated the box. It's nice because the AW11 rear trunk is ducted in to the cab, so you get the intake really clearly in the cab. T-VIS sounds so nice when it opens right in your ear.

i dont know if the 85 AW11's are a bit differant but all i needed to do was slap a poddie onto the throttle body and run some of the flexy hose up from the bottom of the car to get some more cool air to the filter. it was a proper K&N kit too. the kit came with everything and the poddie was offset so it doesnt get in the way of the "boot/bonnet" latch. i am getting a heaps better sound and responce too.
