86 MR2 Thermostat/Ignition Control Valve
Hi All
I'm a new owner and new to the site and it appears I need to do the thermostat and ICV right away. Any hints on these components? I've done plenty of t'stats, but this one looks very hard to reach. Should I work from the bottom? And how hard is the idle control valve to replace? Last edited by Andrew; 11-30-2006 at 05:09 PM.. |

the t-stat sits on top of the trans..... a hose from behind the motor runs to the housing, and another hose leaks out to the bottom of the chasis.....

Thanks Toyospeed90. The thermostat has now been replaced. I said "ignition control valve" when I meant "idle control valve", by the way. A mechanic who checked out the car for me said that the problem was just dirty fuel injectors, and there was no need to mess with the throttle body or idle control valve. It appears the car had been sitting for an extended period before I bought it and I will need to run a couple tanks of gas with injector cleaner thru it before doing anything further. The Gumout high-mileage injector cleaner seems to have improved the idle some already, but it also sounds like I need to clean the fuel tank out and replace fuel filter and screen.
