Engine trouble

Hello all, just found this site today and hoped you all might be able to help me.
I have an '86 manual that I got a few years back and recently the water pump went out. started it long enough to get it in my garage after the tow and changed the water pump. However after I got everything hooked back up the engine would not start at all... I have made sure everything was plugged in and attached properly, I have spark getting to the spark plugs, and fuel at the fuel rail, but the engine won't start. I have had a starter switch in for a while now that leads directly from the battery to a switch in my car and back to the starter for awhile now that turns the engine, so it may be a problem that would normally stop the starter from turning.

Any suggestions? I have been checking it for almost a month now and don't seem to be much closer to an answer than I started.

Oh, and anyone know if the short metal rod that comes out of the timing belt tensioner bolt is actually used for anything?

Thank you for any help you can give, it is much appreciated.

not sure i understand! does the engine turn over? if not turning check and make sure that your clutch pedal switch, located behind the pedal when pressed completes the circuit to the ignition switch.

Yes, it is turning over, what I meant was I am not sure if the engine WOULD have turned over if it where not for the seperate starter switch I had installed.

I am sorry if I do not make myself clear, but I do not know that much about cars.

Timing?

Did you jack your timing when you reinstalled the belt? If your cam gears moved you have more work ahead of you.

Oh, you did replace your timing belt while you had it apart, right..

Checked the timing, no problems there

Also, been checking my fuel injector circuit, and my fuel injectors are only getting .07-.08 volts, anyone know how much they should get?
When I check the cold start injector it gets 9 volts, and when I check the circuit just before the injector resistor it gets 11 volts.

One last thing, when I check fo continuity between the plug coming back from the injector resistor and my injectors, one pin on my injector plug reads 2.5 ohms, and the other reads 0 ohms, but both DO have continuity, is this normal? If so can someone explain why to me?

what kind of meter are you checking your injector voltage with. I used a fluke 83 and got the same readings on my not running car. But I think the pulse width is to short for a DMM to pick the signal up. I'm gonna try with an o-scope to see. They are supposed to get 5 volts from what I'm told.

Thanks for the help guys. Turns out that there is a magnetic pickup in the bolt that holds down the timing belt tensioner, and nothing mentioned it so I cut it down to get it out of the way . Once I replaced it the car ran fine just had to readjust the timing afterwards.

Again thanks for the help
