TPS sensor problem

Someone here has to have experienced this problem, so here me out:

My TPS sensor went bad quite a while ago. The idle switch was still functioning, but there was no voltage signal on the signal wire. After ordering a new TPS sensor, I realized that although the sensor would bolt up and was compatible with the wiring harness connector, the tabs on the sensor that connect the throttle body tangs to the sensor potentiometer were rotated 90 degrees the wrong way. So when the sensor was plugged in, it sends the computer an idle signal regardless of how wide open the throttle plate is, therefore not allowing it to rev (goes lean).

I have now ordered three different sensors, and although I have gotten sensors with two different part numbers, they are all oriented incorrectly like I mentioned before. The piece of the throttle is keyed also, so it cannot be rotated to match the TPS sensor. Multiple sources say the part number I need is 89452-20060 yet when I look at pictures of it on websites the pieces are still orientated incorrectly.

Has anyone had this problem or know what part I need? To let you know I have a California emmissions 1985 MR2 (could the california car really have a different TPS?)

I have one of those also, it came in a box of other parts with the car. I went to a junkyard and purchased one off a junker. Some yards wanted to sell it only with the throttle body for $100 or so. I kept looking and picked up a good used one for $20. Sorry that I don't have a part# for you. John
