No Engine bay cooling warning light at startup

I've seen in the manual that there should be a Engine bay cooling light on the dash, at the end, but i only get the engine, brake and charge light. Was the engine cooling warning lamp an option? My MR2 is a late '87 model, 4a-ge, australian delivered....

Any help appreciated, i just want to know if i should rip the dash apart to replace the lamp, or leave it cos it doesn't have one..

I've yet to see one without it. It could be that your bulb burned out, or your fan computer is having a problem. The fan computer is in the trunk, behind the ECU (which is behind the carpeted firewall panel). To see if your fan works, start the engine, then unplug the sensor. The sensor is attached to a bracket on the passenger side (of a RHD vehicle) of the head and points down towards the bottom of the engine bay. If the fan comes on, I'd be willing to bet it's the bulb. If the fan doesn't come on, you may have a problem with the fan controller, fan motor, and the bulb may still be burned out from being on from a malfunction. I can't recall if mine ever came on during startup, but I know it did come on when a stick got lodged in the fan and it couldn't spin.

ok i FINALLY got around to doing it. The car had been driven/was at operating temp when i disconnected that sensor, and the fan was running before the sensor was disconnected. I disconnected the sensor, no light, no fan dropout, no nothing. I then re attached the sensor wire, and the fan cut out (it started shortly afterwards)

So i assume this means i need to pull mah dash apart to replace the engine bay cooling warning light...

I think I remember talking with someone who noted that their aussie car had, instead of a cooling fan light, instead had an exhaust temperature light. Could be that you don't have it, or that the bulb is bad. It sounds like the fan system is working correctly though.
