help please sumint up with my mk1

i have been driving my mk1 mr2 about 2nite after a good clean, and all of a sudden after driving about for about a hour, i noticed my battery light and another light 2 the left of it cumming on dimm and the more i revd the brighter they come, then i lookd @ the battery gauge and it was high so i put my rear de-mister and my heaters on to bring the gauge down and they went off and all seemd normall, so sumhow there is too much curent getting to my battery, does any 1 know what is wrong please or how to test what is wrong?

thanx

The charge light along with another indicator light means your charge system has a problem. Sounds like the voltage regulator to me. Depending on the year of your car, it may be part of your alternator, or separate.

Pull the alternator out and take it to Advance/Kragen/Shucks/Other Autoparts store. Most of them will test for free. I believe the '87s have an internal regulator. I think it was only the SCs that have external.
