There's no "ECT-S" button as such, or even "ECT" button. "ECT-S" appears to be a general term to describe the transmission as a whole. It's printed on the a section at the rear (engine end) of the shifter box (below P, R, N, D, S, L), and it's printed below the two buttons assigned PWR and MANU.

I think I'll need to post pics across the weekend. I expect everywhere you're thinking ECT, it's written as ECT-S on my car.

That describes the PWR mode, only perhaps the revs don't climb as high.

Re Overdrive, so does the overdrive engage throughout the gear shifts:

eg. 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5

Or simply acts as a 4th gear:

eg, 1, 2, 3, 4/OD

My expereice with it points to the latter, though on gentle acceleration I can't help wondering if its the former as it appears on my wife's Toyota Echo?

Was your car Super Charged?

And was your car the standard USA-delivered model?

My car was sold in Japan and imported to Australia within the last few years (at around 132,000km). It tells me, in Japanese, the safe way to stow the targa panels in their covers.

You may be describing the USA-marketed/released version, or the non-SC version.

And as there's so much doubt in your posts , I will post some pics to show you that no-one's scribbled an "S" on my transmission selector or next to everywhere it would otherwise read "ECT".

Yea, I guess I missed the S- when looking at Japanese auto SC pics.. So, there is a difference..

Anyway, just was bored and felt like discussing.

Slushbox

In Craiglist Atlanta Ga there is a 86 with a slushbox tranny for $1299, the advertised price flucuates with every day it is reposted......

Now a true sportscar is a manual!

But.....And a might fine butt

Some unfortunate souls may not be physically able shift gears, a slushbox tranny in a "cool" car is still a better ride then most other vehicles.

Slushbox cars are better when one is first learning how to drive.

i always wanted to connect the ECT button to a relay, connected in parallel with the stock wiring on a SC model, so you can have the SC on all the time.

now THAT would be an extra power button

My first MR2 MK1 was an auto. Even though it was automatic it was a blast to drive and always shifted at redline when floored.

actually, creating a pinhole leak in a certain line may hold the rpms higher. you would have to find the vacuum line running from the governor on the trans, assuming its a vacuum operated governor.

my dads truck has a bad intake manifold gasket that causes it to shift a bit too late. but this gaskets been bad for ten years.
