The Speedo Cable Is Just Like A Garden Hose In Terms Of Replacing It. Trace The Cable And Just Unscrew It - Like I Said, Its Just Like A Garden Hose.

The years are the same. I've replaced mine 3 times. The first two it never occured to be that I had a bad engine ground and it was using my speedo cable as a ground instead. It sucks replacing. I put my car on 4 jackstands so I could be free moving around underneath it. A lift might actually be more difficult since I found being on a rolling creeper to be very nice since you will be spending a good deal of time under the car. You have to take off all of the under body plastic protectors that cover the tunnel, engine, and steering rack. Then it's best to remove it from the dash end first. Take the cluster out, then work the top part of the speedo cable from the cockpit into the frunk. Once that is out, feed the cluster end of the new cable back in. Then take the old speedo cable and force it out the other hole into the steering rack area. Feed the new cable in engine end first and then just swap clips from the old cable over to the new as you work from the front to the back. You will probably have some difficulty with the rubber grommet that seals the frunk, but keep fighting with it and it will work. Make sure there are no kinks, and that the cable spins freely.

I also have a problem with the speedometer cable. So I pulled it loose from the transmission and put the end in a drill to see if it was the cable. The The spin on the cable made my speedometer go so I figure the cable is ok. I hope the tranny speedometer gear is not broken. Is that common?

it's not unheard of, but i wouldn't say it is extremely common.
