I have a lot of questions

& maybe silly ones, but

Why does my Mr2 Look so different than some i've been looking at with the same body style?

I have an 85
Which i'm assuming is part of it.

But why aren't my mud flaps the same color as the car like some peoples?
Did the car come that way or is that custom?

If it's custom.. How do i get it done!
It looks really neat.
& even if it's not custom how would i get that done?

Another thing i noticed that was different is i have plastic molding on the sides & other people don't.
Why!

I guess what i really want to know is what all if different from the 85' to the 89'

It always helps when you add a pic to your question/story

Yes 85's tend to have black trimand moulding pieces, which IMO looks out of place, there are two different styles of side vents,yours...and the ones like mine with the fins.Again the mudflaps came black most likely because your car is an 85 , dont try and spray paint them to match the cars paint color...take it to a shop and have the paint match your side trim and mudguards. And the plastic side moulding....ahhhh the plastic side moulding, my passenger sie has it my drivers doesnt, but if you take it off prepare for one hell of a job cleaning the glue off your body.If you look at my car in my signature..it has been stripped of alot of things yours has and a body kit has been added,,,,,BTW i Have a body kit for sale and i live in portland too I will try to be more informative and less snippy after my hangover wears off, welcome aboard....stick around and tons of mr2 knowledge will float your way via the internet.

Cool Your car is a lil bastard!

Just kidding!

Welcome Brea...

The 85 MK1's have several different items than later models including tail lights, front lip vs. air dam, side vent, black side moldings, bad transmissions(5th gear pop out), smaller brakes, interior consoles, seats etc...
Things will also vary depending on the trim package that the car was purchased with, aero package, power options(windows, mirrors, locks, cruise control), sunroof.
I own an 87 MK1 and was recently at a meet with several other MK1's and found that I had a different third brake light than any of the other 87's there...go figure! Maybe Toyota had some spares they wanted to get rid of! lmao

Speed Safely and enjoy the M Theory!

I don't have power anything in my car..

Also i wasn't going to try to paint the mud flaps with spray paint.. That would look awful.

They felt like a plastic material though so i wasn't sure if i could get them painted..

If i take the molding off will it look strange?
I don't like it, it's faded.
I'm going to get the paint re-done (the same color) eventually so would the glue be a big issue?

Also i wasn't sure about body kits..
I don't know which one i'd want or what they'd look like.
You should show me more pictures of yours in your sig.

The side vents came in different styles too!?

What's an airdam?

What's an airdam?
I have a base(no power anything) 87 N/A(normally aspirated, no supercharger).
You could paint the mudflaps with plastic paint but the color won't match! The best thing to do is take them to a body shop and they will paint them with the proper color and add flex agent to the paint so that it won't chip and crack when they bend.
Taking off the molding isn't hard and you can obtain xylene solvent for the glue.
Be careful with body kits as there are many poor quality ones out there for CHEAP! But you will end up spending a couple thousand for a body shop to get them straight enough to mount and paint.
They changed the side vents in 1987 to a single vent(look at my gallery pics)...85-86 had the vents like your's has.
An airdam is the piece mounted below the bumper on the front of the car. The 85-86(some) came with a black plastic lip unless you ordered the "aero package" from Toyota(included side skirts below doors) and rear mudflaps. Look at the front of mine and you will see what the stock airdam looks like...I also have the rare and now unobtainable front mudflaps on mine!

HI Breanna , if you PM me your email i will send you a bunch of info. and pics of diff. body kits, My advice on body kits is either buy authentic pieces from reputible companies...or buy nothing at all, My Fiance and i have had a hell of an experience with some body kits.

Question on rear fender/dual tip exhaust...

Does anyone currently make a dual tip rear bumper like on this page and also, what dual tip exhaust fits the mk1 if any? I like the symmetry of the dual and clean simple look on the back like that.

The mk2 muffler fits with some modifications. It would help if you know how to weld. I made a post a few weeks back.
