air vent difference?

Just curiosity, is there a difference between the two different side vents? one has one big opening, and the other has two openings? i have the one with one opening, but one of the things is cracked so im picking up a new one but only seem to find the vents with two openings. fine by me, i like those better anyway, but what is the difference? just year? na vs sc?

AFAIK, its the years, i think the two opening vent is from the 84 to 87ish and then vented style is the later model, The only difference however is asthetic.,

FYI

I just tried to put on the "new" old side vent, doesn't fit and even if it did the mounts for screws are in different places, about 1 inch further back. looks like i am stuck with the newer style air vent......

here's the story.....

i have an 85 that originally came with the flush intake vent. car was hit before i owned it. When it was at the body shop all they could find was an 89 donor car, hence i have the newer side vent. I figured everyone has been swapping these out ever since the newer one came out because I never found anyone saying it didn't work.

Ill post some pictures when I get the chance, but because nobody has mentioned this it makes me wonder if mine is some weird phenomenon. can anyone else confirm sidevents are not interchangable?

Yes, they are totally interchangeable. After removing the vent, you need to remove the mounting ring. There is a black ring attached w/4 screws to the vent opening. (the piece you attach the vent to. it has the two white tabs) Remove that and replace w/ the appropriate ring for the vent you are putting on. Once the ring is upgraded, you can then upgrade the vent.
