Help, my 88 SC is getting code 51, stalls when warmed up
I replaced my distributor O-ring on my 4AGZE, then all my troubles started. Jumped E1 to T to set timing and got code 51. I don't have AC but the BGB points me to AC troubleshooting for code 51.
Despite numerous attempts with reinstalling the distributor by the book, I can't get timing to be 10°BTDC by rotating the distributor while E1 jumpered to T. I get close to 20° BTDC. Tried reinstalling the distributor one tooth each way but then it won't start. When I reinstall the distributor as normal, and let the engine warm up, I can hear a few misfires. The ignition seems to advance more as the engine warms up (like 25° BTDC). When I rev the engine and let it idle down the engine struggles to come up to idle speed and stalls. I've replaced the rotor, cap, ignition wires, and spark plugs with no improvement. Have you experienced this and know what to check? Thanks. |

This might be the reason.
51 Switch condition signal Displayed when A/C is on when TE1 and E1 connected in test mode A/C switch Accelerator pedal, cable ECU So, reset your ecu, and recheck the codes with the AC off. |

Thanks but I don't have AC (never was installed) and I have pulled the fuse to reset the CPU, but the code persists.

Found source of the problem....
I think I've found the problem - I'm not getting the E2 to IDL connection in my throttle position sensor at idle. I connected a spare TPS and it cleared my trouble code and my timing is very close now to 10 degress BTDC with E1 jumpered to T.
I will check tomorow whether the TPS is misaligned or defective. |
