Now that an economic supply of hydrogen has been identified (urine recycling) and in a lab setting they've made economic hydrogen holding tanks from chicken feathers, we just need some more maturation in the auto-side of the house (like Honda did with the FCX) to show some promise to the guys who are in charge of infrastructure that hey, "this stuff can work."
So how many chickens does that work out to..20 million barrels of crude per day? so lemme see..304 million people peeing 3 times a day, at an average rate of 600ml..hmmm

Thanks for the update, yikes!

What are you changing in order to reduce the heat generation?

Do you have any idea what the optimal output is?

Forgive me, but I can't resist...

First....isn't the whole point of making and using one of these saving money? If I spend 30 bucks making one of these, and it gives me, say, an extra 5 mpg, is it worth the 30 bucks and time to build and maintain it? That's a question only the individual can decide.
With me, I'd probably try it. Save money? Maybe. But the whole reason for me trying it would be for fun.
But hey, if it does save you an appreciable amount of money, why not? Screw the math and science if it takes 300 bucks off your annual gasoline usage. Plus, you can tell your tree-hugging girlfriend that you're helping the environment and maybe even get a bonus!
If it doesn't, it was a fun project to toy with if you're into it.
As far as the cheaper hydrogen from urine? That's all fine and dandy, but you'll never see ME standing on the side of the road with my fly open, refilling my car.

I'm just catching up with this thread and haven't completely read the whole thing. I made a Hydrogen generator for my 91 NA three years ago with the aim of producing a small amount of HHO and injecting into engine for increasing mpg and power. I abondonded the project as it was too complicated and risky to reduce the petrol as I increased hydrogen injection. Pics of what I made below.

Two design comments for consideration;
1/ I used a PWM (pulse width modulator) to produce a DC square wave for power supply to HHO module. This allowed a reduction in current which was only producing heat in generator. Also helped vibrate the plates and allow bubbles to break from plates. Power was only supplied from stand-alone battery in trunk rather than car supply so I could monitor total energy used.

2/ With producing high concentrations of hydrogen you will have hydrogen embrittlement with your enigne components that come in conatct with the gas. This will lead to reduced strength and fracturing over time. Main concerns are the valves, pistons and cylinder sleeves which will prematurely fail under load.

I am encouraged by your experimentation and can contest I've help others achieve better fuel economy and power with thier diesel engines. There is some merit in the theory but I believe it is more cost effective and easier to produce alcohol for E85 fuel supply than HHO.

That's an interesting article.

"Liquid Solar Fuel," the end product — the methanol, gasoline, or other liquid fuel made from water and the carbon monoxide produced using solar energy.
That's something to keep an eye on over the next 15-20 years.

oh yay! this forum has HHO talk... wait till you guys see my cell and "lab" in the shop! First thing I thought when I got my SC "YESSSS finally something to handle this power"

Ive been researching and developing a unit for a car for over 5yrs, parts, parts and test, test, the HHO and hopefully GEET will be in my 88

can we get a check in for o=how many people are actually running hho PRESENTLY

btw to achieve best results you need ecu control, and there are a few other engine mods needed to allow for the larger combustion that will be happening because of the hho+petrol and if you can separate the H from the O (as my next cell will do) then you can pump straight H in, more stable and easier to work with the ECU.. will read all 8 pages soon!
