Underseat speaker - new stereo
Just wondering if anyone knows how to link up the underseat speaker in a MR2 mk1 1988, i bought the car recently and had a look behind the stereo and he has re-done alot of wiring for front speakers but i thought it would be cool if i could find some kind of adapter for the underseat to 2 phono outs or somthing? any advice? Cheers

Is it under the driver's seat? Chances are that that isn't a speaker, but a computer. Personally, I fit 2 10" subs behind my seat for a pleasent boost in volume. The easiest way to tell will be the look at how many wires are going into/coming out of it; if its more than two or three, it's not a speaker.

As far as i can see it is a speaker as ive seen them for sale on ebay a few times, its under passenger side seat. In a box that looks like an amp, but has holes in it in the shape of a speaker... It has what looks like a fat black cable wich i can only describe as somthing like a female port of a S-Video cable but not obiously. And a yellow and white cable.
They trail under the carpet and up to behind the sterio, they have been disconected from whatever they used to connect to (old stereo maby). If i can ill undo all the mounting and take a picture if i have time. All i can say is that the only way i think its a speaker is because ive seen them advertised as under seat speakers and sold on ebay and they look just like this. Well in that case it shouldn't be too hard to figure out. The worst case scenerio is you'll have to cut and splice some wires. It really all comes down to what all is in the box with the speaker. If all the necessary parts are still there, it should require power from the same wire that powers the radio (to tell it when to come on), power from the battery (to give it its actual power, and a positive and negative input from the radio to give tell it what frequency to put out.
If you feel like fooling around with it, get some pictures and I'll see what I can find out on the net; however, it will probally be about the same price to get it working as it is to buy a new one. |
