For Sale???
I got a message on my car that someone desperatly wanted to buy it for "Top Dollar." Well, since Kelly Blue Book told me "Top Dollar" was about $2125, that just doesn't seem fair. Based on condition, I was curious what other people thought was reasonable.
The person works for a car dealer scouting out cars for clients. Apparently a first gen MR2 is on the list and seeing as there are only three in the city (one that I've seen once and another with severe body damage), it gives me a little bit of a monopoly on the market. The car is a 1989 GT with a sunroof and original cloth interior. The trunk has rust in it, the motor has 130,000 miles and the air conditioner has no effect on air temperature. The windows roll up with assistance, but I have the parts to fix them. The paint is good, except the clear coat on the hood is peeling. It has 15" OZ wheels (though I still have the original ones) that I paid $1000 for this year. The tires are still new. The transmission is perfect with a 5,000 mile old clutch and a 9 lbs flywheel. No suspension problems, though I do have a prothane bushing kit. There is plastic melted the the exhaust heat shield, that gives the engine an appearance to smoking when its hot and stopped. The title is clear and I have maintenance records from the past year. Any input would be appreciated. I love my car, but I'm in the military and about to be gone for 6 months, so I'm torn between giving it a new home or making it wait on me. |

ask $5000. That is top dollar for an NA with some rust.
