white crap in the oil

as the title says i have noticed some white foamy snot in my oil. i have just had a 20V black top put in my car and when i opens the filler car i noticed this. i dont know if it would be because the engine has been sitting around for a little while or not. i am just hoping it is not a result of coolant - oil interaction as i got the car back yesterday.

Thanks

Wherever it is, you've got water in the oil. The only way to find out for sure whether it's from sitting around or a leak is to change it and see if it comes back.

It doesn't often come from sitting around very often, but I've seen it come from washing the engine bay more than a few times.

Good luck!

well i can say they deffinately didn't wash the engine or bay so i guess thats a bad sign. do you know how much oil i should have for my engine? ohh one more thing i noticed was the oil looked a little over full, could this make a differance?

Thanks

I do some boat work in addition to my mr2 and absolutely, that sounds like water in the mix. Oil change and compression test are a good place to start.

good luck!

Mine too, but that's how we used to determine if it was a loose oil fill plug or a leaking oil seal when I fixed pressure washers.

The compression test would probably be a better way on an engine...

Betcha anything its coolant caused by a leaking headgasket. Sorry

White stuff in the oil is never good.

if theres a white residue on the oil filler cap then its definitly a head gasket ..

i noticed a small amount on my new 4age but thought it was there from before the rebuild .. but 14 miles later i was on the side of the road with smoke pouring out of the engine bay and coolant coming out of the exhuast ..

hope that helps a little .. i would do a compression test .. i did it and came up with some messed up #'s

its all been sorted m8, thanks for your interest anyway (look at post 9 for compression figures). no more white suff so i put it down to condensation or just the idiots putting the engine in stuffing something up.

Not true. That happens quite often on cars that aren't ran for long periods of a time.
