steering wheel problem!!! HELP!

hey everyone...i have a problem with my steering wheel (91 MR2) it tends to vibrate alot (shakes side to side) after i get around 60 MPH. but the weird thing is that it only happens sometimes. and sometimes the car would drive fine. yesterday i was driving on the freeway going around 65 mph and there was a little curve turn comming up and when i was turning my sterring wheel a little bit to the right i can feel my steering wheel shaking more then usuall. im not sure if its my suspension or something that is seriously wrong with the car. any help is well apreciated! thanks!!

I'd love to see an answer to this because I'm having the same problem on my mk1 at around 60 as well. If I go 55 it doesn't vibrate but when I hit about 60 it starts to vibrate till I hit like 65

1. Are the wheels bent?
2. Are the tires jacked/messed up at all? This includes proper tire pressure.

Get an alignment and get your wheels balanced. If that doesn't fix it, then you need some suspension parts, which they will probably tell you about when you get the alignment.

it could still be balancing. I know old rims that have worn tires vibrate (from experience!) even though they were once balanced.

ive had the same problem with my 89 .. but i am currently restoring the whole suspension .. after seeing all my ball joints, steering inner and outer ball joint parts .. that more than likely caused it ..

i would put poly bushings ($80 ebay) .. and all new suspesion parts (ball joints, tie rods, etc) and there about the same as the bushings on ebay ..

i noticed i could shake the wheel a little when the car was in the air before and now i cant budge the wheel in any direction since i got the bushings in ...

hope that helps

I have the same problem. Even now after I've had an alignment and the wheels balanced, although it wasn't quite as bad after I had the wheels balanced. The tires are also fairly new, they easily had 75% of their life when I got the car, and I've only driven it a couple thousand miles.

Time to check out your bushings.

Also look at the wear pattern on your tires. If the wear is uneven enough it's possible that they're just too messed up to balance properly.

well .. in my case if any of your bushings are worn .. then you might as well replace them all .. escpecially the lower controll arm ..

also check you steering inner and outer tie rods .. they were worn on mine

but look on ebay .. a set of prothane poly bushings is only around $80

and there alot better than stock ...
