Before I begin I own a stock 1986 MR2 5-Speed.
I've been thinking about it for the reason I plan on eventually swapping out my 4AGE for the AE111 in the comming year/years and my existing C50 transmission is leaking so im sure 5th gear pull out is bound to strike. Based on what mr220v said in his thread about swapping in the 20v and what possible transmission options are available I like the 6-Speed idea and that there is no need for any drilling for the oil mod. Also while im at it id like to get a bell housing with starter mount on the intake side. Questions: A) Can the starter be mounted on the intake side on the 4AGE? B) Is the C60 6-Speed a good match with the 4AGE? Thanks |

The C-60 wont bolt to the 4AGE block. It works with the ZZ series engines. You'll want the C-160 6spd from the 20v Blacktop, this will bolt right up.
Match like performance compatability??? I dunno, its geared alot closer. Id imagine it might help with the lack of torque??? |

The celica 6speed can be used. You need to use an A series bellhousing. Use the one with the second hump if you want to mount the starter on the intake side.
The absolute correct way to do this is to dismantle the c-60, and properly set differential bearing load. If you want to shortcut this, you can just switch bellhousings. You'll need to reuse the original shims and races with the celica differential. I did this with mine and it turned out ok, but there is a chance that you might be out of spec. |

mr220v so your mr2 has the AE111 with the celica 6speed transmission? Are you happy with this set up? do you have any pictures of your installation?
thanks |

I should clarify. I'm actually running a c59 from a 1zz corolla. It uses the same bellhousing as the 2zzge c60. I've been running on this transmission for about 3 years and I didn't take any pics when I did the mods.
The reason I did this was because I had access to a very clean c59 for a very cheap price, and I had an A series bellhousing lying around. Swapping the c60 and the c59 to work on an A series motor is about the same proposition. The only difference is that on the c60, you have to transfer your inputshaft bearing to the A series bellhousing and you have to use 91+ mr2 NA axles. As far as the setup on my 20v goes, it's a silvertop with a c59 transmission. The c59 has the same ratios as the c52, but is a bit more durable. I'm running my silvertop on blacktop electronics. COOL thank you so much for your knowledge. Im right now looking for parts to swap in a c60. I can find the axles but the transmission and the bell housing ill need will be harder to find. You know anyone online who would happen to have a bell housing with starter on the intake side?
thanks again |

^nope, no 6 speed. I'm not touching my mk1 unless something breaks, or I find a super deal on a 2zzge.
On the subject of 1zz ecu's to kill, the best ones are from the mk3 mr2. They had the immobilizer and can be bought cheap. COP 5sfe camrys are another good place. I picked up a celica 1zz ecu off of ebay the other day for $32. Of course I have a purpose for it. Are you going with an aftermarket ecu and need an adapter? |

That's a normal 4age. The c160 from a 4age 20v blacktop would just bolt on. The c60 from a celica gts would not just bolt up.
Either way though, you have to make modifications to make either tranny work. |

So the splining is different? What about celica axles? I used them on my mk1.5 they fit the mkI n/a hubs and have the spline for the s54 (well s53 almost the same box anyway) just the celica right hand axle has a carrier that bolts to the S series block so you might have to make something up to adapt. But 5sfe celica axles can be had for a bag of chips. Dunno about length though I'd have to measure my 91 axles against my mk1.5 ones just to see if they are longer. Might look at mine next out I should have some on the shelf.
