Clutch cable 89 T-Bar
How do i change the clutch cable on my 1989 Mk1 T-Bar? If that is in fact the problem.....when trying to put it in gear it crunches, worse in reverse but still...
any ideas would be massively appreciated! Cheers, Matt |

you don't have a clutch cable. you have a hydraulic clutch. bleed/flush the hydraulic line. you adjust by the pedal/master cylinder.

well, if adjusting the clutch doesn't work to alleviate the problem, then a thorough bleed is next.

does it crunch in all gears or just reverse and second? they use the same cog and it is a common problem in a lot of cars if they are not looked after. NB i am not 100% sure this is the same for an MR2 but it is with a lot of cars. if someone hadn't stolen my old gear box i would pull it apart and look for you. damn bastards

Yeah it is just reverse and second, but its incredibley hard to put it into first when idling. also when pulling off its difficult to change gear but gets easier as i get through each one.

Due to the age of the MR2, and lack of history, the master cylinder is a low cost maintenance item and should be replaced as a precaution, given your description of problems.
