what is this?, and where does this go?

so yeah i finally had time to work on my 2 today... basically there are wires everywhere and they are not where they are supposed to be (like all over the place and not supported by anything...) so my queston is...

what is this? (this is right behind the battery)



and where does this go?



and could this be the problem my car does not idle?

First pic is the charcoal canister (left) and the fuel filter (right)

Can you get a pic a little further back for the second pic so we can see where the vacuum line is plugged in?

I don't have an MKI, but that line should go to a vacuum switching valve (California Spec car) or to a port on the intake manifold. Look around the throttle body for a port labeled "P" and check if there is vacuum line connected to it - if there is, follow the line and it may lead to a vacuum switching valve.

cool thanks for the info... so i finally found out where it went after about 20 min of searching... it was the vaccum switching valve! but... my car still does not idle...
