Exclamation a collection of problems

Hello everyone,
I am going to pick up a 88' supercharged mr2. The only thing that i know about it is that it has an overheating problem. Im sure that there is more problems ahead but i am very patient when it comes to my love for small cars. I have never owned a mr2 even though the mk1 was my 1st realistic dream car. Not that i think that it is the most attractive but just that i thought it would be a blast to drive.
Getting to the point, what are the most common problems with these cars and what is the most bang for your buck for anything, intake, exhaust, interior, ect... My goal is to make this car a daily driver and a autocrosser. i have read alot of the posts here and i have a good idea of what to expect but i would like to have a thread dedicated to the problems most run into when you are maintaining/ fixing up a mk1.
thank you ahead of time
-Gabe

Make sure the cap on the overflow bottle isn't cracked and sucking air into the cooling system. Also check the line coming from the t-stat to the overflow bottle isn't clogged.

1st. Bleed the coolant system of all air bubbles as prescribed in the manual. Must be done correctly or air bubbles end up in the system. Darn air just doesn't conduct heat like coolant does.

2. If that doesn't fix it replace the thermostat and bleed the air again.

3. Do you have head gasket problems?
